American Airlines passengers will benefit from Vueling’s 140 destinations in Europe, the Middle East. and Africa, via Barcelona.
The two airlines will help increase long-haul passenger traffic in El Prat, making Barcelona a major gateway to Europe.
The agreement enables Vueling to operate as a feeder for long haul flights.
Barcelona, 19th March –Vueling and American Airlines today announced a new connection agreement which will bring more long-haul passenger traffic to Barcelona, strengthening El Prat airport’s position as a point of entry to Europe for travellers from the United States and as a departure point for U.S.-bound passengers.
The new agreement becomes effective tomorrow via American Airline’s offices and reservation lines, and will be reflected on the American Airlines website (www.aa.com) and at travel agencies at a later stage. It will give the U.S. carrier’s passengers a larger choice of flights in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa from Barcelona and Rome-Fiumicino. This now includes Vueling’s 140 short- and medium-haul destinations served from its Barcelona hub. The agreement also enables passengers to travel on a single ticket, and book their luggage through to the final destination.
American Airlines now operates daily services from Barcelona T1 to New York (JFK) and Miami (MIA). The agreement also covers flights to Philadelphia (PHL) and Charlotte (CLT) operated by US Airways –merged with American since 2013– which will be launched in April and May, respectively, with a daily service from each city. In 2014 Vueling carried nearly 500,000 passengers from the United States on its European routes.
Vueling is working with the authorities to help make Barcelona a major hub for short- and medium-haul flights in Europe.
