A former official at European planemaker Airbus, Jean-Paul Gut, is studying a dossier to buy the ILFC aircraft leasing group from AIG with the help of Qatari funds, French newspaper La Tribune said on Thursday.
It also said the current operations and sales head at Airbus, John Leahy, was also associated with the project but it was uncertain whether they were looking at acquiring the fleet of over 1,000 planes or the California-based company ILFC.
The Wall Street Journal said on Thursday that ILFC was going to pay back USD$2 billion in short-term debt while sources on Monday said that AIG was in talks to sell part of ILFC to Steven Udvar-Hazy.
