Air Transat: 5 voli YUL-FCO estate + zoom airlines

Se Air Canada chiuderà la FCO-YUL, Air Transat aumenterà la YUL-FCO a 5 voli a settimana con A310. Due anni fa Air Transat opereva con 3 voli per settimama.

Sembra essere un rumor più che credibile la possibilità che Zoom apra la YUL-FCO e la YYZ-FCO nel 2008 o nel 2009, con 767-300.

Certamente ci sono i rumors che Alitalia aprirà la YUL-FCO nell'estate 2008, ma non voglio combattere con i "Malpensa fans".
 
Se non sbaglio già l'anno passato Air Transat operò 5weekly sulla YUL-FCO. Zoom è un rumor che ricordo già l'anno passato. Ma come non dimenticare anche la YUL-FCO di Alitalia, vero, ma sbaglio o hai dimenticato GIG e LAX?

Air Canada never took YUL-FCO out for sale.. its always been there. What you will see, is that in one week's time, the route should be cancelled and closed for sale. You will also notice that all the lower fare buckets, are closed for sale currently.

That's not right,AC still proposes lower fares on this route(about 800€ rt). Skysurfer,an expert forumer,confirmed it was taken out some days ago and now it's sold again. Anyway what's your source?

I worked on the YUL-FCO project, and it makes me really sad to see it get cancelled. [xx(]

But like I said, at the end of the day, if Alitalia does indeed come back to Montreal (as per current negotiations with Aerporti da Montreal, and apparently have already signed ground handling contracts)... i will be very very glad.

So ,why are they going to drop this route?

You work for AC and you'll be glad if AZ restarts its YUL service,this sounds pretty strange to me :D
 
Well, Air Canada is going to soon get rid of all 767-200's. So there will be no more 767-200 flights across the Atlantic. We have 29 763's, and therefore can not keep all the flights across the altantic due to fleet shortage. It was either we cancel 2nd Montreal-Paris, or Montreal-Rome.. and Montreal being a french city is a big nono. Toronto-Manchester is also cancelled for the summer.

Being an 2nd generation Italian, (family came from Bari and Campobasso), it would be amazing the see the Italian colors over the Montreal skies. Every since I was a little boy, ive been hoping to see Alitalia.. and it seems so close, yet so far [:301][:307]

According to AC's website (http://www.aircanada.com/en/about/fleet/) there are 31 763s in the fleet. I can see how it makes sense to decommission 762s. Question: is it so hard/expensive to procure more 763s on the used market to replace the 762s on certain routes? Or is the 763 too large for a YUL-FCO?

Air Canada will be going down to 29 763's by summertime. The 767-300 has 211 seats vs. 207 seats. Its not a seating issue, nor a profitability issue.

It's a strategic issue, when your losing long-haul airplanes and fleet, which routes are more "strategic" than others. Montreal is not a primary Air Canada hub, and giving up on Montreal-Paris flights, does not make sense strategically.

Hence why this is a very unfortunate situation... YUL-FCO had VERY good loads, and made $$$.. another factor is that 767-200 cannot cargo out of FCO, due to heat.
