Liverpool and Venice both have a myriad of attractions to offer to the Maltese traveling public. Whether its art and culture, shopping sprees or sport, one is spoilt for choice in Liverpool. The city boasts of two Cathedrals, the Anglican Cathedral and the Metropolitan Cathedral, which are major attractions in their own right. Liverpool is also the birthplace of not only the Beatles, but Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Echo and the Bunnymen and Atomic Kitten. One can visit the Magical Mystery Tour, the Beatles Story and Cavern. Liverpool also boasts of two Premiership football teams, Everton and Liverpool, where one can tour both stadia for a behind-the-scenes view of the beautiful game’s venues. Venice, on the other hand, stretches across numerous small islands in the marshy Venetian Lagoon along the Adriatic Sea in northeast Italy. The city is renowned for its water canals including the Grand Canal - Venice's main water thoroughfare, which is lined with great Renaissance palaces and is a colorful and busy spectacle of gondolas and vaporetti. Other attraction include the Doge's Palace (Palazzo Ducale), Venice’s most impressive secular building, Saint Mark's Basilica (Basilica di San Marco), with its blending architectural styles of East and West. Last but not least is Venice's magnificent Piazza San Marco (St. Mark's Square) which is undoubtedly the most photographed and famous plaza in Europe.
