Further USA premieres for airberlin: inaugural flight from Berlin to Chicago

11.07.2012

The first non-stop flights are already available for Easter 2013
airberlin is continuing its expansion to the USA: from 23rd March 2013 the airline will start operating direct flights from Berlin to Chicago, making it the first company ever to provide a connection between the German capital and this metropolis in the US state of Illinois. Following the introduction of the direct connection from Berlin to Los Angeles in May, this is already airberlin‘s second USA premiere in a very short period of time.

airberlin will start operations on the new route for the beginning of the Easter holidays at the end of March 2013. When the summer schedule starts in May 2013, airberlin will increase the number of direct flights from three to five per week.

Prof. Dr. Rainer Schwarz, CEO of Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH said: “The new connection to Chicago sends a strong signal for the future viability of Berlin-Brandenburg as a centre for aviation. I would like to express my gratitude to our home carrier, airberlin, for the trust they have placed in us. With flights to Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami and New York, Berlin is now very well connected to the USA.”

His Excellency Philip D. Murphy, United States Ambassador to Germany said: “I welcome this new direct flight from Berlin to Chicago, which opens up travel from the great German capital city to the heart of America.”

Paul Gregorowitsch, CCO airberlin said: “Chicago is already the seventh US destination to be included in airberlin’s flight schedule and the airline is thus setting the course for further growth in the United States of America. The direct flight to Chicago is a strategically important step for us to further promote connectivity between our Berlin hub and our partners‘ hubs. Chicago is also the second largest hub for our oneworld® partner, American Airlines. This network expansion will provide a wide range of connections in Europe and in the USA for airberlin customers and for those of American Airlines.”

From 1st Mai 2013, an airberlin Airbus A330-200 will make the nine-hour flight to the city on Lake Michigan on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Between 23rd March and 31st April 2013, airberlin will operate the direct flight every Monday, Thursday and Saturday. Take-off from Berlin is at 10:00 and the flight lands at Chicago’s O‘Hare International Airport at 12:10. The return flight from Chicago leaves at 15:25 und arrives in the German capital at 07:00 on the following morning. Feeder flights to Berlin are available from eight other cities in Germany as well as from Vienna, Zurich, Budapest, Copenhagen, Helsinki, Gothenburg, Oslo, Stockholm and Russia. Further connections to airberlin’s extensive European route network are expected to follow. Flying into Chicago also gives passengers access to the American Airlines network which offers connections to destinations across the whole of North America.

Tickets for the new flights to Chicago are available now online (airberlin.com), through the
company’s Service Center (phone: 01805 - 737 800; €0.14/min. from a German landline, call charges from mobile phones max. €0.42/min.) or at a travel agents, from 668 euros for the return flight. Tickets for airberlin Business Class are available from 2,498 euros. Prices are inclusive of all taxes and charges and include topbonus miles.

Ultima modifica:

AirBerlin to launch Chicago service

AirBerlin from 23rd March, 2013 will be launching nonstop service between Berlin and Chicago. The service will initially operate thrice weekly, but will be increased to five times weekly from 1st May.

Summer in the City: even more airberlin flights to New York and Chicago next summer

For summer 2014, Germany’s second largest airline is increasing the frequency of its flights to the United States, continuing its policy of expanding its USA service. From May, airberlin will be offering three additional flights from Berlin to New York (JFK) compared with summer 2013, making a total of ten flights a week from the German capital to the US metropolis. There will also be ten flights a week to the Big Apple from Dusseldorf, as there were last summer. This means that the airline will be flying 20 times a week non-stop from Germany to John F. Kennedy airport, and also offering up to two connections a day to New York (JFK) from numerous places in Germany, Austria and Switzerland via Berlin and Dusseldorf.

“Already this winter we have extended our flight schedule to the USA and now we are continuing with this strategy for summer 2013. The focus is on providing good connecting services for our guests from Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Our improved flight schedule to the USA will give both business travellers and holidaymakers more flexibility in choosing their flights and planning their trips,” said Wolfgang Prock-Schauer, CEO airberlin.

From Munich, Nuremberg, Vienna and Zurich, for example, there will then be up to two flights a day departing at midday and in the late afternoon to the Big Apple. There will be new connecting services for airberlin flight guests from Bucharest, Graz, Kaliningrad, Madrid, Rome and Salzburg, who will be able to travel to New York (JFK) for the first time via the hub of Berlin due to the increased frequency of flights.

airberlin will also be increasing its flights to Chicago next summer, so from May 2014 there will be a non-stop flight every day from Berlin to the city on Lake Michigan.

In summer 2014, travellers will be able to fly non-stop with airberlin from Germany to a total of five destinations in the USA: Chicago, Fort Myers, Los Angeles, Miami and New York (JFK). Within the United States, through its codeshare agreement with its oneworld® partner American Airlines, airberlin is also able to offer flights to about 60 additional destinations, so that nearly every region of the USA is within reach for airberlin travellers. For example, travellers from Berlin can conveniently fly via Chicago to Denver, New Orleans or Seattle.
