INCIDENT / Air Arabia pilots turned an A320 into a STOL aircraft.
The Airbus A6-ANV performing flight G9-111 from Sharjah to Salalah entered the runway for an intersection departure from taxiway B14 and turned into direction runway 12, opposite to intended direction.
Takeoff distance available from B14 on rwy 12 was 1020 meters instead of 3010 meters in direction of rwy 30, including the paved runway end safety area of 1150 meters was available in direction of rwy 12.
The crew commenced takeoff from intersection B14 on runway 12, managed to become airborne in time to avoid any obstacles, climbed out and continued to Salalah. Both pilots have been suspended.
