American Airlines is bolstering its service for customers in New York City by adding 7 new destinations served by 23 additional flights from the city's two airports, enhancing the travel experience with upgraded aircraft, and providing customers with improved terminal facilities.

American has also entered in an agreement with JetBlue Airways that will offer JetBlue customers connections to American's international flights and new domestic flight options on JetBlue for American customers out of New York and Boston.

JetBlue Agreement
American and JetBlue will be working together in New York and Boston to benefit customers of both airlines — including convenient interline-connectivity.
Customers flying in and out of New York's JFK and Boston's Logan airports will have access to more destinations. For example, JetBlue customers can now travel from Burlington, Vermont to JFK where they can then board American to Paris — and back. JetBlue customers will have access to 12 of American's international destinations from JFK and Boston.
In addition, American customers will have access to 18 new domestic non-stop markets from JFK and Boston on JetBlue, including Portland, Maine, and West Palm Beach, Florida, for instance.
The agreement will provide connections for more passengers at JFK and Boston to American's international destinations in Europe, Asia, and South America.
None of the routes on which the airlines will cooperate overlap current flights and routes served by the other.
American and JetBlue said they will also explore other way to cooperate in the future.
New Routes With American and American Eagle
Starting in summer 2010, American and American Eagle will also expand the routes and service they offer customers from New York. Including previously announced additions, by year end at LaGuardia and JFK combined, American and American Eagle will add 31 total flights to 13 additional routes, bringing total NYC departures to 216 and unique destinations to 63.
This new announcement includes 7 new destinations served on 23 new roundtrip flights. When combined with new options for travel on JetBlue, American's New York customers will have access to 81 unique destinations on 271 nonstop flights by the end of 2010.

LaGuardia
New American Eagle Bombardier CRJ-700 airplanes, outfitted with First Class as well as Coach Class, will fly several new routes from LaGuardia to:
Atlanta - Seven times daily effective July 2
Charlotte - Five times daily effective August 24
Minneapolis/St. Paul - Four times daily effective October 1

The CRJ-700s will also be used to fly existing routes from LaGuardia, including:
Raleigh-Durham, effective August 1
Toronto, effective August 24

American will also increase mainline daily roundtrips to Miami and Chicago from LaGuardia. The new flights expand American's domestic network and give our customers direct access to the top business markets, as well as providing leisure travelers with new, competitive options.

JFK
American begins service in April and May to San Jose, Costa Rica; Madrid, Spain; and Manchester, England.
In July, American will commence non-stop service to Austin.
In November, American will add twice-daily, non-stop service to Fort Lauderdale, and increase daily frequencies to Orlando, Las Vegas, and Miami.
American Eagle will add daily roundtrip regional jet service to Columbus, effective April 6, and St. Louis, effective July 2.
In November, American Eagle will begin one roundtrip daily to Norfolk, and add twice-daily service to Indianapolis and Cincinnati, using Embraer regional jets.
American Eagle will also assign the two-class CRJ-700s to upgrade existing routes from JFK, offering First Class service to Washington Reagan, Boston, and Toronto starting in early 2011.

LGA and JFK Facilities Improvements
American plans several improvements to its facilities at LaGuardia in addition to the Concourse D checkpoint expansion it completed in 2008 and the current installation of escalators to the baggage claim area.
American has recently selected an architectural firm to undertake an extensive refurbishment of its LaGuardia Admirals Club location, which will include an upgrade of all of the club furnishings and finishes, as well as renovation of the restrooms and expansion of the seating areas.
The interior of Concourse D will be renovated over a two-year period with all new ceilings, lighting, terrazzo flooring, wall panels and flight information displays. Once completed, these renovations will give the concourse a fresher, more open, and brighter feel.
After the Concourse D renovations are completed, American anticipates undertaking similar renovations in its Concourse C gate areas. American estimates the total cost of these LaGuardia improvements to be approximately $30 million.
American is currently looking at various options to connect the two concourses on the secure side of the terminal to allow its passengers flying out of Concourse C to easily access the Concourse D Admirals Club location.
At JFK, American has put out to bid a 3,000 square foot expansion of its existing 11,000 square foot Concourse C Admirals Club, along with some reconfiguration and refurbishment of the club, which was opened in 2005.
American Airlines and British Airways are currently evaluating a proposal by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to develop an expansion of the new state-of-the-art $1.3 billion international Terminal 8 to allow the airlines to co-locate their operations. Terminal 8 was designed by American expressly to meet the needs of modern customers traveling internationally, and the potential expansion and joint operation of the facility by American and British Airways would allow quick and easy customer connections from airline to airline. If agreeable financial terms can be reached with the Port, the potential co-location would benefit not only the airlines and their customers but the Port itself, which has been exploring various ways to expand JFK gate capacity.

American, JetBlue launch cooperation

American Airlines and JetBlue Airways today are launching a cooperative agreement (ATW Daily News, April 6) under which JetBlue customers will gain access to 14 of AA's international destinations departing from JFK and Boston: Barcelona, Brussels, Paris CDG, Buenos Aires, Rome Fiumicino, Sao Paulo, London Heathrow, Madrid, Manchester, Milan Malpensa, Tokyo Narita, Zurich, Rio de Janeiro and Tokyo Haneda. AA passengers will gain access to 18 B6 domestic markets: Nantucket, Burlington, Buffalo, Denver, Houston, Washington Dulles, Jacksonville, New Orleans, West Palm Beach, Portland (Ore.), Phoenix, Portland (Me.), Richmond, Rochester, Fort Myers, Salt Lake City, Sarasota and Syracuse.

AA will give B6 eight slot pairs at DCA and one slot pair at Westchester while B6 will give AA 12 slot pairs at JFK (ATW Daily News, April 1). "This new agreement with JetBlue complements both airlines' networks and greatly benefits our respective customers," said AA Chairman and CEO Gerard Arpey. "It will also provide important opportunities for us to grow American's international traffic into and out of New York and Boston." The carriers said they are currently working to make flights offered through the agreement available for purchase on their respective websites. AA and B6 also announced yesterday they have agreed "to begin a frequent flyer relationship later this year."

Se la connessione tra AA e Jetblue è garantita anche se perdi il volo hai diritto a essere riprotetto su quello successivo, non è una connessione fai da te a tuo rischio e pericolo.

Con questo fanno 31 voli al giorno da LGA ad ATL (42 al giorno da NYC ad ATL).
I 31 voli da LGA sono effettuati da Delta (16), Air Tran (8) e American (7).
In particolare, Delta opera 15 voli con 757 e uno con MD-88, mentre Air Tran invia 2 737-700 e 6 717. Sicuramente c'era bisogno di altri 7 CRJ700 tanto per migliorare l'efficienza nell'utilizzo degli slot di un aeroporto con piste perpendicolari, spazio aereo costretto da JFK, e a malapena il 60% dei voli puntuali. AA già riempie anche la LGA-BOS di ERJ145 (tante volte non fossero sufficienti Delta Shuttle e US Air Shuttle).
Prima o poi le autorità dovranno penalizzare l'utilizzo di aerei così piccoli su rotte così trafficate.

e' un discorso di costi. se gli slots te li danno li prendi con gli aerei che puoi. possiamo discutere se sia utile o meno (tra di noi ovviamente) :D:D
