Embraer Wins Order for 50 E2 Jets From India’s Air Costa

Feb. 13 (Bloomberg) -- Embraer SA won an order for 50 aircraft from India’s Air Costa as the new South Asian carrier seeks to build its fleet amid a surge in air travel.

The order is worth $2.94 billion at list prices, the company said at the Singapore Airshow today. The carrier has also taken an option for 50 more of the planes, it said in a statement.

The Sao Jose dos Campos, Brazil-based company is investing about $1.7 billion in its second-generation E-2 jet program to compete against Mitsubishi Aircraft Corp., Sukhoi Co. and Bombardier Inc. (BBD/B) The first E-2 model is on schedule and expected to start delivery in 2018. Embraer has firm orders for 150 of its new jets.

Air Costa, based in the Southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, began flying in October with two planes.
