United launches 777-300ER on TLV-EWR

United introduced its Boeing 777-300ER aircraft featuring the all-new United Polaris business class seat on EWR-TLV (Tel Aviv) this weekend, with the first flight departing EWR on May 5.
“We are excited to introduce the 777-300ER to our service between Tel Aviv and New York,” said Israel Sales Managing Director Avi Friedman. “I am confident our customers will appreciate the elevated inflight experience offered by our all-new United Polaris business class seats onboard this aircraft.”
This follows the introduction of United first 777-300ER service on flights between SFO and HKG (Hong Kong), which began March 25. United took delivery of its first 777-300ER in December 2016 and expect to receive all 14 aircraft on order during 2017.
Since the debut of its United Polaris seat in March, double-digit increases in customer satisfaction scores for cabin appearance/comfort and cleanliness marked the improvement.

More 777-300ERs entering revenue service
We continue to put new Boeing 777-300ER aircraft into revenue service. As of the end of May, we have six currently flying (aircraft 2131 through 2136). On June 14, we will begin flying SFO-NRT (Tokyo Narita) with the 777-300ER featuring our new United Polaris seats.
We took delivery of our ninth 777-300ER (aircraft 2139) from Boeing on May 30; it is undergoing post-delivery modifications (PDMs) at SEA (Seattle) and will enter service this week.
Aircraft 2137 is currently having United Polaris seats installed in Everett, Washington, and then our SEA maintenance team will perform the PDM work. Upon completion of the seat installation and modifications, aircraft 2137 will enter scheduled service between SFO-TPE (Taipei, Taiwan).

United Polaris: Delays, Delays, Delays, And More Delays
Last June United announced the details of Polaris, which is the name of their new international premium cabin experience. This includes new business class seats, better onboard food and amenities, and better lounges. The Polaris product was launched as of December 1, 2016, which is when the Polaris Lounge Chicago opened, as well as when they started offering the new onboard soft product.
I’ve reviewed United’s new 777-300ER Polaris product on a flight between San Francisco and Hong Kong, and Travis has reviewed the Polaris Lounge Chicago, including every dish on the menu.
From the beginning I was wondering whether the Polaris marketing wasn’t a bit premature. They announced the start date for Polaris as being December 1, even though it would be several months before the first plane featured the new seats. That doesn’t even account for the fact that it would be five years until all the planes would feature the new seats.
Worst of all, that was optimistic. United has been having issues with Zodiac, the designer of their new Polaris seats. Their original plan was to already be reconfiguring existing 777-200 aircraft with the new product, that hasn’t happened. Instead only the 777-300ERs that are being newly delivered feature these seats.
So United hasn’t been keeping up with their promised timeline for Polaris seats, and that’s not the only area where they’re disappointing. United has now announced delays in the opening of new Polaris Lounges.
Less than two weeks ago United said that their Polaris Lounges at Newark and San Francisco would be opening by the end of 2017, but that’s not happening anymore. Now United’s “Polaris Tracker” says that the next Polaris Lounges will be opening in San Francisco, Newark, and London, in “early 2018,” and Polaris Lounges in Houston, Los Angeles, Tokyo Narita, Hong Kong, and Washington Dulles, will be opening “later in 2018.” I suspect that these estimates are highly optimistic, as other reports have suggested that United is way behind on construction.
So United isn’t living up to their promise when it comes to installing their new seats, and ins’t living up to their promise when it comes to the new lounges. It may very well be two years after the product was announced before you can visit a Polaris Lounge and then board a plane with Polaris seats (since presently the only Polaris Lounge is in Chicago, and there are no planes with Polaris seats flying out of there).
Unfortunately as the construction is delayed, lounges will continue to be overcrowded, given that much of the space is closed and under construction. I experienced this recently at the United Club San Francisco. The issue with the delays isn’t just that passengers aren’t getting the better Polaris Lounge experience, but also that lounges are severely overcrowded in the meantime.

(così come è già sui 77W)

United adding seats to 777-200s with Polaris retrofit

United Airlines will add at least 23 seats to its long-haul Boeing 777-200s when it reconfigures the aircraft with its new Polaris business class seats.

The Chicago-based carrier will configure the aircraft with 50 lie-flat Polaris business seats and 242 economy seats, shows a seating diagram sent to flight attendants and provided to FlightGlobal by a source.

United configures its long-haul 777-200s with either 267 seats or 269 seats, depending on whether they are former Continental Airlines or United aircraft. Its domestic 777s have 364 seats and will not receive Polaris.

The airline joins competitors American Airlines and Delta Air Lines adding seats to its 777-200s. American is reconfiguring its fleet of the type with up to 289 seats compared to 247 seats previously, and Delta plans to retrofit its fleet with 296 seats versus 291 seats today.

United debuted Polaris on its 777-300ERs, which entered service in February, and then on the Boeing 767-300ER in September.

United plans to debut the reconfigured 777-200s this winter, a spokesman says.

Separately, United has set the configuration of its new Boeing 737 Max 9 at 179 seats, with 20 in first class and 159 in economy, a flight attendant seating diagram viewed by FlightGlobal shows. This is the same number of seats as on its 737-900ERs.

The airline is scheduled to take delivery of its first 10 737-9s in 2018, a September fleet plan shows.

United has firm orders for 61 737-9s and 100 737-10s, Flight Fleets Analyzer shows.

Boeing launched the 777 program on Oct. 15, 1990, with an agreement with United written on a legal pad. Slightly more than 22 years later, we took delivery of a milestone aircraft: the 1,500th 777 Boeing produced – one of our new 777-300ERs (aircraft #2143).

ps: grazie per l'ottima cena milanese millenove77, la prossima anche Dancrane!!! :)
