Flybe's new routes from Cardiff Airport

Airliine Flybe has this morning confirmed a major expansion at Cardiff Airport with 11 new routes.
As revealed by WalesOnline yesterday the new routes, starting this summer, include those to Dublin, Milan and Munich.
It will provide a huge passenger boost to the airport which the Welsh Government acquired in 2013 for £52m.
It will add several hundred thousand passengers a year to its current annual level of just over one million.
It should also help attract some of the more than one million Welsh passengers a year that use rival airport Bristol, as well as new passenger from outside of Wales.
With the support of the Welsh Government Flye has made a ten year commitment to the airport, with the possibility of other routes to follow.
The airline will serve the new destinations in the UK and Europe this summer and base two of its existing Embraer E195 aircraft at the airport.
One of these 118-seat aircraft will arrive at Cardiff in June and the second in September.
This announcement will result in the creation of 50 jobs, including flight crew and ground handling staff.

The new routes are:

Belfast, Cork, Dublin, Düsseldorf, Edinburgh, Faro, Glasgow, Jersey, Munich, Milan Malpensa, and Paris Charles de Gaulle. Seats will be on sale from on March 6 along with the publication of full schedules. Fares will be available from £24.99 one way.

Airport view

Chairman of Cardiff Airport Lord Rowe-Beddoe said: "Our customers want greater choice in routes, more frequent services and better value flights.

"This new Flybe base is most welcome news for our passengers as it will bring new destinations and increased services from a popular great-value airline, as well as creating opportunities to encourage more visitors to come to Wales."

First Minister's view

First Minister of Wales Carwyn Jones said: "Flybe's announcement that it is opening a new base operating 11 routes from Cardiff Airport is fantastic news.
"We've always said that we want the Airport to be a gateway to Wales, as something that will drive our economy by bringing tourists and business to the country.
"We've already invested in improving the overall customer experience at Cardiff Airport and the new routes to major European destinations, as well as the creation of 50 new jobs, demonstrates Flybe's commitment to the airport and will help to make it the success we know it can be."

Flybe view

Chief executive of Flybe Saad Hammad, said: "We are delighted to launch these exciting new routes from Cardiff Airport. As part of Project Blackbird, we have been looking to find a productive home for our surplus E195 aircraft.
"And we are delighted at this 10 year agreement with Cardiff Airport which involves us basing two of these jets there to serve the Welsh market with great value fares and further improving UK regional connectivity. We continue to seek solutions for the remaining seven E195 Project Blackbird aircraft."
Transport expert Martin Evans said: "The new Flybe network appears to be a wish list of everything that Cardiff Airport would want.
"We now want to see frequency on these routes increased so that all the routes provide a good service to business passengers.
"And this time we want to see Flybe make a real long term commitment to Cardiff Airport."
Flybe currently operates services to Belfast City, Geneva (winter only) and Jersey from Cardiff Airport. It will launch a summer service to Dusseldorf next month.

FlyBe ha annunciato un nuovo volo Cardiff-Roma dalla S17, 2 volte la settimana.
Sarà la terza rotta italiana da CWL del vettore (MXP e VRN le altre) e inoltre il primo e al momento unico volo a FCO.

Rome wasn’t built in a day!
From Leonardo da Vinci to the Vatican, the capital city of Rome offers passengers a breath- taking list of cultural sites and scenes for that perfect summer break.

Departing twice a week (Tuesday and Saturday) from Cardiff Airport from March 2017, passengers can take advantage of the new route by booking tickets to the Italian capital at www.flybe.com from today.

From just £24.99 one way including taxes and charges, flights to the Roman cultural centre are a key feature of Flybe’s initial Summer schedule which includes the return of twice weekly flights to Verona plus 12 key routes, including an extended Saturday ski route to Geneva through to mid-April.

From Palazzos and pizzas to the wonders of Pompeii, this city of treasures is expected to attract both leisure and business passengers travelling from Wales’ national airport as this important destination is added to Cardiff Airports’ portfolio and mission to connect European capital cities.

Debra Barber, Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer, Cardiff Airport, said: “It’s fantastic to be able to welcome another totally new route to the Flybe network. Our Welsh customers have consistently asked for Rome to be added to our route network and we are delighted that this key service to another major capital city is now on offer from Cardiff Airport.

“Flybe now flies to five capital cities from Wales’ national airport and we will continue to work closely with them and all of our other airline partners to offer our passengers more choice of leading destinations.”

The new service will also prove an important route for inbound visitors to Wales with Italian passengers heading to the capital to explore Cardiff and further afield.

Vincent Hodder, Flybe Chief Revenue Officer, commented: “We are delighted be releasing this initial phase of our Summer 2017 schedule from Cardiff today. These services connect Wales to key business centres all over Europe as well as to some fantastic destinations that are ideal for short breaks or even longer summer holidays.

“In providing a ‘One Stop to the World’, Flybe’s codeshare partners also offer regional customers extensive opportunities to enjoy seamless long haul travel. This benefits those looking for onward connections meaning there is now no need to go anywhere near the large hectic London hub airports!”

The ancient city Rome, located in the Central Western portion of the Italian Peninsula, boasts an abundance of cobbled streets and side-street cafes, museums, art galleries and hip, trendy restaurants.

Flybe expands Cardiff network with Venice flights

easid-278461-media-id-11096.png

Flybe is expanding its network from Cardiff airport next summer with the addition of flights to Venice.
The summer-only service will run twice a week with one-way fares starting at £34.99.
Flights start on March 27 and will be available until September 9, with departures timed to suit the needs of passengers joining cruises in Venice.
The addition of the Italian city brings the regional carrier’s summer schedule up to 17 routes from the Welsh airport with up to 75 flights a week.
Flybe interim chief commercial officer, Ronnie Matheson, said: “We are pleased to offer passengers this brand new route to Venice as part of our 2018 Summer schedule.
“It boosts further the large selection of flights to great city and sun destinations available from our popular Cardiff base.
“The ongoing success of our services from Cardiff airport reflects Flybe’s commitment to listening and responding to the needs of our customers, who are increasingly enjoying the time and cost-saving convenience of travelling from their own regional airport.”
Airport chief executive, Deb Barber, added: “There’s no place quite like Venice. It offers miles of waterways, cobbled streets and hidden gems located on every corner. And, while it’s the ideal romantic destination, it’s also a very useful access point for cruise customers across the region.” TW
