Finnair Increases Chicago Service in S16

Finnair in summer 2016 season once again operates Helsinki – Chicago seasonal service, which will begin on 06MAY16. In 2016, the oneWorld member will operate this route 5 times a week, an increase from 3 weekly in summer 2015.

Finnair Converts Miami to Year-Round Service in S16

Finnair is converting Helsinki – Miami operation from winter seasonal to year-round service, as the airline opened reservation for flights on/after 27MAR16. In summer 2016 season, the oneWorld member will operate 3 weekly flights with Airbus A330-300 aircraft.

“L’A350 sta incontrando il favore dei passeggeri, che si stupiscono soprattutto per la sua silenziosità” afferma il country manager di Italia, Emirati Arabi, Israele e Grecia Paolo Zampieri, che continua: “la nostra sfida ora è riempirlo soprattutto nella classe business, che è aumentata da 32 a 46 posti, in quanto la capienza totale è rimasta uguale a quella degli A330 che utilizziamo sulle rotte di lungo raggio, ovvero 297 posti, di cui 43 in Economy plus, che è una economy evoluta, non Premium, con 10 centimetri di spazio in più e altri servizi ad hoc. Interessante per molte aziende che non fanno viaggiare i propri dipendenti nelle classi top con un prezzo poco più alto rispetto all’economy normale, comunque di gran livello soprattutto sul nostro A350 ”.


Business class A350 di Finnair

A350 con livrea Finnair che è decollato per la rottaHelsinki-Shanghai e che presto prenderà il volo anche su altre rotte orientali come Pechino o quelle giapponese, per il vettore finlandese le più gettonate per l’incoming in Europa: “giapponesi e finlandesi sono due popoli che hanno molto a cui spartire e quindi sono tanti i nipponici che volano con noi” ci spiega Zampieri, che ribadisce il focus Oriente del vettore anche per le novità 2016: “ritorneremo a Canton, o Guangzhou, nel 2016, con un volo quadrisettimanale per l’estate (in partenza il 6 maggio, ndr) che crediamo possa poi trasformarsi in annuale, come per i voli che già operiamo su Chongqinq, Hong Kong, Pechino, Shanghai, a cui affianchiamo lo stagionale su X’Ian”.



Come già annunciato su queste colonne la seconda novità parla giapponese, ed è la città del Sud del GiapponeFukuoka, operata con tre frequenze settimanali e quarta destinazione del Sol Levante per Finnair, in aggiunta ai voli giornalieri per Tokyo Narita, Nagoya e Osaka. “Tutte destinazioni importanti per il mercato italiano che per circa il 50% vola oltre il nostro hub di Helsinki” afferma Zampieri. Passeggeri, gli italiani, tra cui c’è una grande percentuale di viaggiatori d’affari e che sulle rotte da e per l’Italia, ovvero i collegamenti da Roma, Milano, Pisa e Venezia su Helsinki, “arrivano al 50 e 50 circa con i passeggeri che provengono dalla Finlandia” sottolinea Zampieri che, per la prossima estate, punta anche ai voli stagionali sugli Usa, soprattutto Chicago, per il mercato italiano: “per il volo che abbiamo aperto su New York i passeggeri italiani si contano sulle punta delle dita di una mano, anche perché non era in coincidenza con i collegamenti italiani, così come invece sono le rotte asiatiche (da 45 minuti a 2 ore di connecting time,ndr) e così come sarà il volo su Chicago” che, insieme a Toronto e Miami, sono i voli stagionali Finnair sulle Americhe.
La compagnia in Oneworld ha ordinato un totale di 19 aeromobili A350, di cui i primi quattro sono entrati o stanno entarndo in flotta in questi mesi, mentre altri sette verranno consegnati tra il 2016 e ill 2017. L’ordine verrà completato entro il 2023.
“Con l’A350 Finnair vogliamo offrire la miglior ospitalità nordica”, afferma Juha Järvinen, Chief commercial officer del vettore “Fin dall’inizio il nostro obiettivo è stato quello di considerare ogni singolo particolare, dal servizio personalizzato garantito dai nostri assistenti di volo ai dettagli che contraddistinguono il design di cabina”. Che, ideato dal famoso studio finlandese dSign Vertti Kivi & Co, è stato premiato in occasione dell’International Yacht & Aviation Awards. L’illuminazione è a led e varia in modo graduale per adattarsi all’orario, alla stagione e alle caratteristiche della destinazione, ed è capace di ricreare 24 diverse tipologie di ambientazione, inclusa l’aurora boreale, sfruttando 16 milioni di colori, mentre le ampie finestre panoramiche accolgono più luce naturale all’interno della cabina.
Importante per il comfort di bordo il sistema di intrattenimento Nordic Sky e la connessione internet, gratuita per i passeggeri di Business Class, i soci Finnair Plus Gold e Platinum e i membri Oneworld Emerald e Shappire . Infine una nota sul catering di business, firmato da Kari Aihinen, Executive Chef del rinomato ristorante Savoy di Helsinki, innaffiato da Blue Sky, un mix di champagne francese e liquore di mirtillo finlandese, e servito con stoviglie e tessuti firmati dall’iconica casa di design finlandese Marimekko.

Finnair proceeds with its growth strategy; expands and modernises its European fleet

The lease of four A321 narrowbody aircraft

Finnair has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with BOC Aviation Pte Ltd (“BOC Aviation”) to lease four new Airbus A321-200 narrow-body aircraft. BOC Aviation is a Singapore-based subsidiary of Bank of China, specialising in aircraft leasing. The aircraft are scheduled for delivery to Finnair during the first half of 2017. The lease agreements have a minimum term of eight years.

In November, Finnair had announced the temporary damp-lease of two A321 aircraft from summer 2016 onwards. This arrangement is intended to cover the transitional period until the delivery of the four A321 aircraft now dry-leased from BOC Aviation for the longer term.

The transactions are part of Finnair’s fleet renewal, the first phase of which consists of replacing aging long-haul A340 wide-body aircraft with modern A350s. With a view to the growing long-haul traffic, feeder capacity is increased by adding seats to existing narrowbody aircraft and replacing some smaller aircraft with larger ones over the next few years. The A321 is Airbus’ largest narrow-body passenger aircraft, and the Finnair configuration will feature 209 seats.

The sale of four surplus aircraft

In the same context, Finnair sells surplus aircraft in accordance with its fleet plan to various buyers. The agreements or MoUs concern one ATR turboprop aircraft used in regional traffic, and two Embraer E170 regional jet aircraft, which will be retired from Finnair and Norra’s traffic in January-February 2016 and subsequently delivered to the buyers. In addition, Finnair will sell an old A340 wide-body aircraft for part-out in the first half of 2016. The sale transactions do not have a significant impact on profit and loss.

Finnair confirms A340 phase-out plans; to retain A330s

Finnair (AY, Helsinki Vantaa) has confirmed it will complete the retirement of its A340-300 fleet by the end of next year. Of its original seven-strong fleet, Finnair now operates three on regular flights to Delhi Int'l, Nagoya Chubu, Osaka Kansai, and Singapore Changi. Once their service life is completed, the aircraft will be sold back to Airbus.

In an Investors' prospectus, Finnair said despite the loss of the three aircraft, it would continue to grow its longhaul fleet by retaining two of its eight A330-300s in service beyond their original retirement date of 2017. However, the fate of two A330s, destined to leave the fleet in 2020-21, has yet to be determined.

The A330s will add to the Finnish carrier's growing widebody fleet which, by the end of next year, will entail nineteen aircraft split between the A330 and the new incoming A350-900s.

Finnair has a total of nineteen A350s on order from Airbus Industrie (AIB, Toulouse Blagnac), five of which have now been delivered. Of the remaining fourteen, two more will arrive this year followed by four more in 2017. All nineteen are expected to be in place by the end of 2023.

Panasonic Avionics Corporation è stata scelta anche per il servizio sugli A330

Aveva annunciato di voler installare una connessione di rete wireless sulla la maggior parte dei propri aeromobili e i primi servizi wireless sono stati attivati sugli aerei alla fine dello scorso anno a bordo del nuovo A350 Xwb. Finnair prosegue ora con l'installazione del wifi a bordo degli A330 a lungo raggio, a partire dal mese di ottobre di quest'anno; si prevede che sia pronta per maggio 2017.

"Nel mese di maggio 2017 i nostri clienti disporranno di connessione di rete wireless a bordo di tutta la nostra flotta a lungo raggio. Oltre all'accesso a Internet, avremo una vasta offerta di servizi di intrattenimento a bordo, possibilità di fare acquisti, disponibilità di notizie in tempo reale e altri servizi aggiuntivi a titolo gratuito sul portale Nordic Sky di Finnair", informa Piia Karhu, direttore dello sviluppo esperienze clientela.

Panasonic Avionics Corporation, che fornisce già la connessione per la flotta degli A350, è stata scelta anche per il servizio sugli A330. Il collegamento sarà realizzato con tecnologia banda Ku satellitare, che garantisce una connessione di rete globale operativa durante un volo.

La connessione Internet wireless è gratuita per i passeggeri di classe business, i clienti Finnair Plus Gold e Platinum, e gli utenti oneworld a livello Sapphire ed Emerald.

Si ottima scelta di dare il wifi gratis in business o ai FF con status elevati e a prezzi interessanti anche in economy. Il blocco sorvolando la Cina è per via della censura su internet che avviene in quel paese?
 
Number of passengers grew 5.5% year‐on‐year
In July, Finnair's overall capacity measured in Available Seat Kilometres grew by 9.2 per cent and traffic measured in Revenue Passenger Kilometres grew by 8.6 per cent year‐on‐year. Despite the strong growth, the passenger load factor was close to last year’s level at 88.7 per cent (89.1 per cent).
The capacity in Finnair’s largest traffic area, Asia, grew by 13.0 per cent in July, boosted in particular by the newly launched Fukuoka and Guangzhou routes, and traffic grew by 10.7 per cent. Capacity in American traffic increased by 24.8 per cent mainly due to increased Chicago frequencies, and traffic measured in RPK by 19.4 per cent.
The capacity in European traffic grew by 4.0 per cent, and traffic measured in RPK increased by 5.5 per cent year‐on‐year. At the same time, the capacity in domestic traffic contracted by 16.4 per cent mainly reflecting cancellations on the Rovaniemi route due to the renovation of the runway as well as adjustments of frequencies on other domestic routes, and traffic decreased by 12.5 per cent year‐on‐year.
In July, the cargo capacity in scheduled traffic measured in Available Tonne Kilometres grew by 7.2 per cent, and Revenue Tonne Kilometres increased by 13.8 per cent year on year. In addition, Finnair’s total freight capacity includes two weekly freighter flights between Helsinki and Brussels and two weekly freighter flights shared with IAG between Helsinki and London, both operated by DHL.
In July, 85.6 per cent of all Finnair flights arrived on schedule (89.3).

• Business class demand continued to see lively growth, but leisure travel from Asia to certain European destinations seemed to suffer from safety concerns.
• Updated outlook: Uncertainty regarding the demand and yield prospects of the airline industry has increased during recent months. Due to lower fuel costs, higher capacity and growing ancillary and retail revenue, we expect our full year result 2016 to show an improvement on the previous year.
Finnair continued on its growth track in Q2
• Number of passengers grew by 7,6% in H1 to 5,3 million
• Capacity measured in ASK grew 9% year-on-year in Q2; fleet grew by one wide body aircraft, and A350s increased our passenger and cargo capacity
• Increase in Asian capacity 9.2 per cent year-on-year, due to one additional wide body aircraft, additional capacity due to A350 being larger than the A340s they replaced, new routes and higher frequencies
• Capacity to North America increased 66%, with Miami as a year-round route and added frequencies to Chicago
• Finnair was in the summer the only European airline to offer non-stop flights from Europe to four major cities in Japan
• Ancillary and retail sales of ~30 MEUR; growth particularly in additional baggage fees and advanced seat reservations
• Growth was reflected also in increased related costs (recruitment, training, wet leases etc)
We continue to build accelerated growth; cost competitiveness remains crucial
• Sustainable improvement in profitability is a prerequisite for Finnair’s accelerated growth strategy that we announced in spring 2016.
• We want to ensure profitable growth also in an environment of elevated market uncertainty, and therefore launch a cost-efficiency program targeting savings of EUR 20 million annually through various efficiency-improvement measures.
• We continue to prepare and invest for growth:
o Finnair expects to double its Asian traffic from the 2010 level already in 2018, while the original target was set at 2020.
o In 1H, we recruited over 500 employees; training of flight personnel ongoing
o One more A350 aircraft to arrive in 2016; we will have a total of 11 A350s by end of 2017, and 19 by end of 2023
o Finnair will add seating capacity to its current Airbus narrow bodies in 2017-2018 by modifications to the storage and technical spaces
o Building of Finnair's new cargo terminal proceeds; new modern terminal to be in operation in spring 2017
o Wi-fi connectivity to be introduced to the majority of our widebody and narrowbody fleet in 2017-2018
o We are well positioned to finance our future investments.
 
Summer 2017: Finnair announces new routes to Reykjavik, Corfu, Menorca and Ibiza; increases capacity to UK and Ireland
In line with its growth strategy, Finnair is adding four new short haul routes to its summer 2017 traffic program. Between April 11 and October 28, Finnair will fly four weekly flights to Reykjavik. Iceland's lively and modern capital offers an interesting contrast in the land of desolate moonscapes, roiling seas and snow-capped mountains. Reykjavik is within a short daytrip to many of Iceland’s spectacular sights; including the well-known Golden Circle route, which comprises highlights such as the roaring Gullfoss falls, the geothermally-active Haukadalur valley and the world-famous Geysir geyser. Finnair’s new route to Reykjavik will complement the airline’s pre-existing codeshare on services operated by partner Icelandair, offering customers an even greater range of travel options. Once opened, Finnair’s route will offer one of the fastest connections between Asia and Iceland.
In addition to the new route to Reykjavik for the summer 2017 season, Finnair will also fly weekly to Corfu, Greece and Menorca, Spain on Sundays. Between June 17 and August 12, Finnair will also operate a new weekly flight to Ibiza, Spain on Saturdays.
Finnair is also increasing its capacity in the UK market for the summer 2017 season as it will continue its Edinburgh route with up to 5 weekly flights. Additionally, Finnair’s morning flights to and from London will fly with the state-of-the-art A350 aircraft during the summer 2017 season.
Finnair will also increase its flight capacity to Dublin, Ireland. As of March 27, Finnair will fly up to nine weekly flights between Helsinki and Dublin, operating a mix of A319 and E90 aircraft during the 2017 summer season. Compact and easy to explore on foot, Dublin is filled with historical monuments, museums and theatres while street views range from classic Georgian architecture to hypermodern landmarks.
