Anche a me piace molto.

Trailing cones (or trailing wires as they are often incorrectly called or trailing static cones), were first developed and tested in the 1950s and 1960s as a simple means of calibrating the static pressure (altitude reporting) error of an aircraft's pitot-static system. It does this by giving an accurate measurement of the ambient atmospheric pressure (static pressure) well clear of the aircraft's fuselage. The trailing cone system trails generally 1 to 1.5 times the wing span length behind the aircraft[citation needed] via a high-strength pressure tube. Static pressure is measured forward of the cone by several static ports. The cone stabilizes and aligns the ports relative to the freestream airflow.

The FAA states in FAR 91: "Where precision flight calibrations are used to quantify or verify altimetry system performance they may be accomplished by any of the following methods. Flight calibrations should only be performed once appropriate ground checks have been completed. Uncertainties in application of the method must be assessed and taken into account in the data package.

Precision tracking radar in conjunction with pressure calibration of atmosphere at test altitude.
Trailing cone.
Pacer aircraft.
Any other method acceptable to the FAA or approving authority.

PICTURES: E190-E2 makes London City debut en route to Farnborough

An Embraer E190-E2 landed at London City airport for the first time today, en route to the Farnborough air show.

The airport – known for its steep approach and short runway – has said it hopes to gain certification for the re-engined aircraft in 2019.

The test aircraft, which has the face of a shark painted on its nose in allusion to Embraer's marketing of the E2 as a "profit hunter", will be on display at the Farnborough air show kicking off on 16 July.

"For Embraer, London City feels like home, wherever you look, our aircraft are there. So it's a big moment for us to bring the newest generation Embraer jet to this important European hub," states chief commercial officer Arjan Meijer.
E1 jets have operated from London City since 2009, and about 60% of departures at the airport are operated with Embraer aircraft.

"The E2 has enormous potential for London City, with proven ability to operate with less noise, fewer emissions, and better fuel efficiency to open up new destinations, delivering significant benefits for our airline customers, passengers and local neighbours," states Richard Hill, the airport's chief commercial officer.
The E190-E2 entered into service in April, with Norwegian regional carrier Wideroe; the E195-E2 is to follow suit next year with Brazil's Azul. FG
