Salalah Airport, situated on Oman's south-west coast, has closed to traffic following the recent opening of the new Salalah International Airport. The old airport's last flight - QR1143 - operated on Monday, June 14 to Doha Hamad Int'l following which all commercial operations were transferred to the new airfield.
Built at a cost of OMR300 million (USD778 million), the new airport is aimed at fostering the region's tourism appeal and as such, features a terminal capable of handling 2million passengers per annum and facilities adapted to widebody aircraft.
Despite the launch of commercial operations, the official opening of the airport is only scheduled for November.
Currently Air Arabia (G9, Sharjah), Air India Express (IX, Mumbai Int'l), flydubai (FZ, Dubai Int'l), Oman Air (WY, Muscat), and Qatar Airways (QR, Doha Hamad Int'l) serve the city.
