25SEP2013: Royal Air Maroc to establish Rabat as second international hub
Royal Air Maroc (AT, Casablanca Int'l) has announced Rabat as its second local base after its main hub in Casablanca Int'l. In a press release, RAM said it will launch twenty-two new flights from the Moroccan capital before year end as part of its drive to better position itself strategically as well as to develop a more flexible point-to-point network. Among the new planned direct routes out of Rabat to be added are: London Heathrow (3x weekly), Madrid Barajas (4x weekly), Brussels National (3x weekly), Marseilles (3x weekly), Milan Malpensa (2x weekly) and Paris Orly (increased to 2x daily). The airline's most prominent competitor in Rabat is currently Irish LCC, Ryanair (FR, Dublin Int'l), which currently operates to Brussels Charleroi, Marseilles and Paris Beauvais with Madrid Barajas due from October, Girona due from November and London Stansted due to begin in February 2014.
