Madrid Baggage Handlers Strike – Monday16th August
Ryanair have been advised that a 24hr (00:01hrs – 24:00hrs) strike by baggage handlers at Madrid Airport on Monday the 16th August will affect Ryanair flights operating to and from Madrid airport. To prevent flight cancellations and to allow flights to and from Madrid airport to operate, we will NOT be accepting checked baggage on Monday 16th August 2010 on flights to and from Madrid Airport.
We ask that passengers booked to travel on flights to and from Madrid airport on Monday 16th August 2010, travel with hand baggage ONLY.
One item of hand baggage per person, weighing no more than 10kg and with dimensions of less than 55cm x 40cm x 20cm, may be carried into the aircraft cabin. Bag drop desks will not be open and all passengers should check-in online and report directly to the boarding gate with their one piece of hand baggage.
Passengers travelling with hand baggage only on their booked flight on the 16th August to or from Madrid must recheck-in for the flight on the 15th August 2010. Passengers who arrive at the security point with baggage in excess of the permitted hand baggage weight and dimensions will not be permitted to proceed to the boarding gate.
All passengers affected by this strike at Madrid Airport will shortly be sent an email to the email address they provided at the time of their original reservation. This email will detail their options to either apply for a refund of the checked baggage fee or rebook, free of charge, (subject to seat availability) to an alternative date or route.
We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused by this strike by Baggage Handlers in Spain, which is outside the control of Ryanair.
