Ryanair Plans Take-off to Bulgaria's Plovdiv City

Irish low-cost air carrier Ryanair will hold in April talks with Bulgaria's Plovdiv airport for starting flights, the executive director of the airport announced.

Ryanair representatives will visit Bulgaria from April 6-15. They are scheduled to confer also with Transport Minister Alexander Tsvetkov and visit Plovdiv airport to possibly finalize an agreement.

According to Plovdiv airport executive director Doychin Anguelov the attraction of low-fare air companies is part of the airport strategy to increase its passengers and revenues.

Ryanair has been planning to launch flights to Plovdiv airport for several years.

Plovdiv is expected to become even more attractive for air companies as of April 1, when its fees will be sharply reduced and will stand three times lower that the fees at the airport in the capital Sofia.

Irish Company Starts Cheap Flights From The Airport in Plovdiv
Maritsa Daily, 13th December, 2006 The famous Irish low cost airplane company - Ryan air will open regular cheap flights from the international airport in Plovdiv to Germany, England and Spain. This was announced yesterday by the executive director of the airport Plamen Nikolov. It is expected the flights of the first worldwide low cost airplane company to start in August.
It is not accidental the fact that Plovdiv is the chosen town. The disposal of the town and its airport goes hand in hand with the philosophy of the company, which exactly is the existence of regular bus transport to the capital and the international resorts, also to historical finds. It is even already specified the exact airport that will take the landing planes in Germany, it will be in the town of Hahn, which is 80 km. away from Frankfurt.
The airports in Spain and England are still not chosen. The prices offered by the airplane company will be competitive to the prices of the bus tickets to the same destinations. Yesterday the transport minister in Bulgaria - Peter Mutafchiev, inspected the international airport, few days before the winter charter program to start. (It starts on 23-th of December)
The passenger’s terminal is renovated. 160 000 lv. were invested in the repair work. The most important part of the renovation is the new automatic luggage checking system, which is now in process of 72-hours testing. 480 passengers will be served per hour using the new equipment of the airport.
According to the minister of transport the airport will be ready to be given under concession in March 2007.

Ryanair to launch flights to Bulgaria’s Plovdiv

One of Europe's largest low-cost airlines, Ryanair, plans to start flying to and from Bulgaria’s second largest city of Plovdiv, Bulgaria's Deputy Economy and Tourism Minister Ivo Marinov was quoted as saying by Bulgarian-language media.

But to launch flights to Bulgaria, Ryanair asked for lower landing fees charged by the country's airports, Marinov said during a discussion in Parliament on the topic of Bulgarian tourism. It was a demand that the Cabinet was now considering for the less-used Plovdiv airport, at least for a period of two years.

Plovdiv would be Ryanair’s first destination in Bulgaria.

Bulgarian-language Dnevnik daily also quoted Ivelina Grozdeva of the Bulgarian Hotel and Restaurant Association as saying that Ryanair should be allowed to also operate flights to Sofia, Bourgas and Varna.

Sarebbe il primo volo di linea per Plovdiv, visto che ad oggi, ha solo voli charter. Sarebbe comunque un'ottima mossa per FR, una bella città turisticamente ancora abbastanza vergine.

Ryanair sbarca in Bulgaria
