A Windjet Airbus A320-200, registration EI-DFO performing flight IV-583 from Forli to Catania (Italy) with 47 passengers, was on approach to Catania when the crew reported an auto-brakes indication and went around. The crew subsequently performed a safe landing applying brakes manually, during the roll out smoke was seen from the right hand main landing gear. The aircraft vacated the runway and stopped on the adjacent taxiway, where emergency services cooled the brakes down.
The airplane was repaired and resumed service about 8 hours later.
