Etihad Airways has opened its new Arrivals Lounge at Abu Dhabi International Airport.
The facility, which is located just after customs, is available to the Gulf carrier's first and business class passengers.
Guests can make use of a ten-minute clothes steaming service that takes place while they use one of ten available showers, and the "Shave by Etihad Airways" concept, which is a complimentary wet shave by barbers.

The lounge also contains a business centre equipped with a large-screen Apple computer, printer and wifi.
Etihad Airways CCO Peter Baumgartner said: "Our latest airport lounge is a milestone for Etihad Airways and has been launched following extensive market research into the requirements of our first and business class guests.
"This facility, the first of its kind in Abu Dhabi, has been specifically designed to meet their needs and our innovative new offerings will hold particular appeal for guests with early morning arrivals, before hotel check-in hours."
Etihad Airways' international lounges are located in Dublin, Frankfurt, London Heathrow, Manchester, Paris, Sydney and Washington DC, with future locations set to include New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Melbourne and Milan.

No Decision Yet On Etihad's Stake In Air Berlin

September 12, 2014

There have been no decisions in the investigation into Etihad's stake in Air Berlin and whether it complies with EU rules, a spokesman for the German transport ministry said.

"The probe will be carried out very carefully. The probe is still ongoing - that means there have not yet been any decisions. I can't tell you yet when there will be a decision on it," the spokesman said at a government news conference.
The Commission is examining several foreign holdings in European airlines to see if they comply with rules for operating an airline within Europe. To get an operating license in the EU as a European airline, a carrier must be more than 50 percent owned and "effectively controlled" by an EU member state or EU citizens.
Germany's transport ministry and the federal aviation office are looking into the issue of control at Air Berlin, in which Etihad owns a 29.2 percent stake.

Etihad Airways treated delegates to an engaging presentation at the 20th World Route Development Forum Strategy Summit, outlining the carrier’s expanded network by the end of 2015, writes Jonny Williamson for The HUB.

Etihad Airways treated delegates to an engaging presentation at the 20th World Routes Development Forum Strategy Summit, outlining the carrier’s expanded network by the end of 2015, including a brand new route announcement outlining the deployment of aircraft to Dar es Salaam in Tanzania, Tbilisi in Georgia and Baku in Azerbaijan. Flights to all three destinations will be operated using Airbus A320 aircraft in a two-class configuration, with a total of 16 seats in Business Class and 120 seats in Economy Class.

The World Routes presentation was delivered by its chief strategy and planning officer, Kevin Knight, and the rapidly developing airline revealed how it planned to take advantage of the extraordinary growth and unparalleled diversification currently taking place in the UAE.

Knight said he was confident of Etihad’s organic growth over the coming months and years thanks to a combination of advanced aircraft technology, enabling non-stop access between Abu Dhabi and almost any destination in the world, with a new airport terminal from July 2017, lifting annual passenger capacity to 30 million.

Etihad’s ideally-located hub in Abu Dhabi allows it to connect expanding and emerging markets, the likes of Africa, India and China, with existing mature markets, such as Europe and the US.

Demonstrating this strategy, by the end of the next year the little-over a decade old airline will have added a number of new non-stop routes including San Francisco and Dallas in the US in November and December 2014 respectively; alongside Africa’s Dar es Salaam (December 2014), Entebbe (May 2015) and Algiers (June 2015).

Madrid and Edinburgh are due to be added from March and June 2015, with the capitals of Georgia and Azerbaijan, Tbilisi and Baku, both arriving in October 2015. Next February will see Etihad commence flights to Kolkata and Hong Kong, with Phuket in Thailand arriving slightly earlier this October. Rounding off the 13 new routes will be the carrier’s new non-stop service to Brisbane in May next year, dropping the Singapore stop-over that is currently included on the service.

To close his presentation, Knight declared: “The airline industry is changing and the future offers a wealth of opportunities, accordingly Etihad is taking a pro-active initiative-based approach to more effectively compete on the world stage.”

Air Berlin Switches To Boeing 787-9

Jun 3, 2013

Jens Flottau jens.flottau@aviationweek.com | AWIN First

Air Berlin has changed its current Boeing 787 order from the -8 to the -9, CEO Wolfgang Prock-Schauer told Aviation Week on the sidelines of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) annual general meeting in Cape Town. Aviation Week first reported the http://www.aviationweek.com/Article.aspx?id=/article-xml/avd_04_03_2013_p01-01-565021.xml planned change in April 2013. The aircraft are to be delivered from 2017.
Prock-Schauer says the 787-8 is now considered too small and the stretched -9 better fits Air Berlin’s requirement for lower unit costs. The airline plans to replace the A330-300 fleet over time. Air Berlin currently has 15 787s on firm order. The order was placed in 2007 but delivery dates have been delayed several times. The first -8 would have been due for delivery in 2015 according to the latest schedule, but that is now shifting further back by two years.
Air Berlin is in deep restructuring mode and has been cutting back on capacity and investment to return to a more stable financial state. Its equity is currently negative. Air Berlin was rescued from likely bankruptcy in early 2012 when its strategic partner Etihadinvested in a 27% stake in the airline.
The two carriers are also cooperating closely in servicing the 787 fleet.
