As of April next year, Vilnius residents will have new destinations to fly to with the Polish low cost airline Wizz Air signing an agreement with Vilnius International Airport.
The airline, which primarily is based in Poland, will fly an expected eight destinations from Vilnius.
The announcement by the airport is welcome news for the capital after Lithuania’s airline Star1 Airlines filed for bankruptcy this month.
It is understood that negotiations with Ryanair for Vilnius have stalled. The airline has moved a significant part of its flights to Kaunas, Lithuania’s second biggest city.
Ryanair talks broke down because they deal they were seeking would have been unfair to other carriers that used the airport.
Currently there are 17 routes from Vilnius airport.
