A Wizzair Airbus A320-200, flight W6-703 from Timisoara (Romania) to London Luton,EN (UK) with 165 passengers, was about 15 minutes into the flight, when the airport of Timisoara received a phone call, that a bomb was on board of the aircraft in a specific passenger's checked luggage bound to continue to Rome. The crew decided to return to Timisoara, where the airplane landed safely and was evacuated.

A search found no traces of explosives.

The passenger targeted by the phone call was found to be on board of Carpatair Flight V3-203 arriving into Timisoara from Bucharest (Romania). The flight also was searched and underwent heightened security checks. The airplane would usually continue to Rome as flight V3-437, but that leg had been cancelled on Mar 17th.

The Wizzair flight is still on the ground pending an overweight landing inspection. Wizzair dispatched a replacement aircraft to Timisoara.

Authorities reported, that the passenger targeted by the bomb threat had been detained. While they were still trying to identify the caller believing caller and passenger were the same person, the passenger maintained, it was a bad joke against him, but he had no idea who could be behind the call. Authorities were subsequently able to identify the caller, a mentally ill man (49) with the same family name as the targeted passenger however unrelated. The confusion of which flight was affected arose out of the caller's phone call, who had mentioned both the Wizzair W6-703 and the Carpatair flight V3-437 to Rome, however the Carpatair flight to Rome had already been cancelled that day.
