Virgin America seeks DOT approval to codeshare with Virgin Australia on US flights
Virgin America (VX) is seeking US Dept. of Transportation approval to codeshare with Virgin Australia (DJ) on a series of VX routes within the US. The codeshare will place the DJ code on VX services from Los Angeles, Calif., to Portland, Ore., Washington, Boston, Dallas, Chicago, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Philadelphia, Pa. and Seattle.
Once approved, this will be the first-ever codeshare agreement for the California-based carrier, building on a 2009 interline agreement with DJ that connected Australia and US routes, according to a VX statement.
DJ serves 13 US destinations via its codeshare with Delta Air Lines.
“The United States is a very important market for Australia; it is the third most popular international destination for Australian visitors and our fourth biggest source of overseas visitors to Australia,” DJ Group Executive of Alliances, Network and Yield Merren McArthur said in a statement.

Mi chiedo e vi chiedo: considerando il codeshare già esistente con DL negli Usa ma anche quello di DL sui voli inter-Australia, considerando l'assalto della compagnia di ATL a LHR, considerando la vendita di BMI a LH....non è che fantaviazionando....DL (ed in generale SkyTeam) stia parlando di brutto con Virgin????
Non facciamo commenti sul prodotto (Virgin e' meglio DL e peggio, Sky Team di qua e di là), ma parliamo della fattibilità; credo che l'aggiunta di Virgin sul transatlantico e sopratutto con la dote LHR sarebbe un bell'asset per DL e ST in generale, d'altro canto DL porterebbe alla compagnia di Branson il network domestico USA a cui si potrebbe aggiungere quello di Virgin USA (e magari sinergie a Tokyo Nrt e Hnd) . Un bel salto per diventare (Virgin) un vero player globale. Fantaviazione?
