Ciao Paolo!

Non conosco Cancun, ma ti posso copiare quanto dicono quelli di spottersunited al suo riguardo:

Cancun

Submitted by Ian Terry, September 2001

Spotting at Cancun Airport is not particularly easy. There are no ramp views from either Terminal 1 or Terminal 2 until you get airside in the departure lounge. Terminal 2 (used by scheduled airlines and some European/US charter operators has the best views as the circular departure lounge looks out to the single runway so you see everything landing/taking off plus all aircraft nosed in to the gates around the lounge. To the left, looking at the runway there is a long remote parking ramp where the furthest aircraft maybe blocked by the nearest. To the right you get a good view of the FBO/General Aviation Ramp but this is frustrating as many aircraft are parked either close together or nose on. There is also another remote airliner parking ramp in between which may block part of the view if there is a wide body there. You cannot see anything on the ramp at T1 as it is on the far side of the building.

Views from Terminal 1, used by Allegro and all British charter operators plus some US/Canadian/Spanish/Latin American charters, are limited just to its own ramp. You have to be quick to see landings/departures as the runway is at a right-angle to the Terminal. You cannot see the T2 or FBO ramps from here.

Next to Terminal 1 is the FBO/General Aviation Terminal. I have spotted from in here without a problem but there is security on the door and in view of the type of people using the Terminal, I would not recommend staying there in shorts and T-shirt. Something more discreet is called for. Officially, photography is a no-no but no one took any notice of me taking photos through the FBO windows. I put the camera away after each shot and made sure the security guards were not watching. Many aircraft are parked in rows either tail-on or nose-on (usually around 20/30 including light aircraft and a couple of microlights) outside the FBO but with some perseverence you can get most things but not all. It is quite busy so they do move if you can wait a few hours. Outside, between the FBO and Terminal 2 you can get some views of part of the FBO ramp, the remote parking ramp and one side of the Terminal 2.

Finally, on departure get a window seat on the right hand side of the aircraft if you can. Down the runway to the right of the Terminals is another remote 'overnight' parking bay that is totally obscured from the Terminals which contains a derelict 727 XA-RXI and a C-47 N37FL. As far as I can see there are no roads to this area, only the runway/taxiway. If you take off to the right, you will probably be airborne when you pass them, whilst if you take off the other way, you will taxy past them.

The airport is surrounded by scrub and low trees and there is no sign of any roads that would give runway/ramp views. The only road to the airport goes straight to the Terminals and you don't see anything until you get to the Terminals.

Finally if you are staying on the Hotel Strip (it's actually a long - about 30kms long - narrow island), look carefully at the grounds of each hotel as you pass (the local buses are frequent and cheap). Jet Rangers fly about frequently and I have seen them parked in the hotel grounds. They do not live at the airport and I am sure exactly where they are kept. There is also a night club that has about 6 or 8 ex London Transport Routemasters. Not far from there on the lagoon side (not the sea side) there were a couple of Mexican microlight amphibians which also fly frequently, sometimes banner towing.

If someone tells you there is an old airfield in town, this is true, however it has long ceased to be used and is now an industrial estate with the former runway now used as the main road.
