Qatar Airways and United Airlines file joint codeshare application

Qatar Airways and United Airlines are filing a joint application with
the US Department of Transportation seeking permission to place their
codes on each other's flights.
Under the agreement Qatar Airways would expand its presence in the
United States. Qatar Airways is set to launch daily direct service
between Doha and Washington DC on 19 July.
The two airlines said that, pending regulatory approval, Qatar Airways
would put its QR flight code on selected services operated by United
Airlines to a number of domestic destinations in the United States as
well as on services from European gateways to the US.
As part of the agreement Qatar Airways would apply its QR flight code
on flights operated by United Airlines from Washington, DC to more than
50 cities across the US; and flights operated by United from London's
Heathrow Airport, Paris, Frankfurt, Zurich, Rome</u> and Munich to one or
all of the following cities: Los Angeles, San Francisco, Washington DC
and Chicago.
The codeshare arrangement would also give United Airlines service to
five new countries, adding the destinations of Doha, Qatar; Colombo,
Sri Lanka; Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; Male, Maldives; and Peshawar,
Pakistan.
Michael Whitaker, United's senior vice president of Alliances,
International and Regulatory Affairs, said that the airline is pleased
to partner with Qatar Airways to offer service to five new countries as
well as expanding its current service to the Middle East.
