Due to the relocation of the Frankfurt air traffic control tower, air traffic at Frankfurt airport will slightly be affected from 13th to 18h of June. Lufthansa as well as other airlines operating from and to Frankfurt have to reduce capacities. Cancellations will mainly affect flights within Germany which are operated several times per day so that inconveniences for passengers are as little as possible.

Se dovete passare da FRA in questi giorni meglio informarvi in anticipo sulla situazione.

Air traffic controllers move in two weeks ahead of time

8 June 2011 - During the night of 13 to 14 June 2011, two weeks earlier than originally scheduled the new control tower at Frankfurt Airport will start operations. The original date had been 30 June 2011, but this would have coincided with the start of school holidays in the German Länder of Hesse and Rhineland- Palatinate. Since the start of operations will unavoidably have an impact on air traffic, DFS has made great efforts to bring the starting date forward.

The construction of a new tower was necessary as the existing tower in the south of the airport does not afford a clear and unobstructed view of the new runway in the northwest of the airport. The new control tower, a 70 metre (about 230 feet) high construction situated to the north of the parallel runways and next to a Lufthansa hangar, is equipped with state-of-the-art technology. Despite the fact that over the course of the past few months air traffic controllers have been able to familiarise themselves with the new equipment, flight delays or even cancellations are to be expected during the first days of operations. Passengers planning on travelling to or from Frankfurt on these days should contact their airline ahead of time or check the status of their flight online.

The structure, which was designed to fit in with the surrounding buildings at the airport but to also reflect the DFS corporate design, cost about € 34 million. The tower cab is approximately 100 square metres (1,000 ft²) in area, making it almost 40 square metres (430 ft²) larger than the existing tower and can accommodate 12 staff members.

Che fine farà la vecchia tower? Io proporrei di metterla come punto di osservazione con ingresso a pagamento come la terrazza. Sarebbe un paradiso per gli spotter.
Altra ipotesi che mi piace potrebbe diventare un ristorante panoramico.

Ottime idee!!! :D Potresti proporle alla Fraport :D
 
Se i moderatori sono d'accordo, proporrei di unificare le 3 o 4 discussioni sull'ampliamento dell'aeroporto di FRA (vado a ricercarle), per fare un discorso complessivo sui vari investimenti:
- molo A+ del Terminal 1
- quarta pista
- nuova torre
- progetto di Terminal 3 e correlata ridefinizione del sistema di trasporto interno dell'aeroporto (people mover)
Tornando all'articolo postato, è la prima volta che leggo di programmazione aeroportuale legata al calendario scolastico (inizio delle vacanze estive in Assia e Renania-Palatinato)!
