The Dutch low fare carrier transavia.com has informed employees that the carrier has begun a consultation procedure about a possible reduction of the Danish operation from the 1st of November 2010. It is the company`s intention to close down the entire Danish business by April 1st 2011. The reason for this is that transavia.com has been unable to achieve a number of business goals on the Danish market.
Previously today the Dutch low fare carrier transavia.com informed their Danish employees that they have begun a consultation procedure about a possible closure of the business in Denmark. transavia.com`s intention is to reduce the business as of November 1st 2010 but up until this date all transavia.com flights will be operated according to schedule. If the consultations results in a reduction of the Danish activities, passengers who purchased tickets to a cancelled flight will receive a full refund.
It is the intention that several flights will continue to operate until the 1st of April 2011. Information about these flights will be available on the transavia.com website once the consultation procedure is completed.
Passengers who have booked a ticket at transavia.com will be informed by email as soon as the consultation procedure has come to a conclusion. Passengers that booked via a tour operator should liaise with their tour operator for further enquiries.
”We are aware that the possible closure in Denmark is sad news for many of our employees and it is for us too. After two years in Denmark we have unfortunately not been able to meet the business goals we set for operating in Denmark. Consequently, the only rational decision is to initiate the consultation procedure to close our operation in Denmark,” says Michiel Meijer, CEO for Transavia Denmark APS
With the overcapacity in the market transavia.com assesses that it is unlikely that the Danish operations will contribute sufficiently to the company’s benefit in the near future. The reason to this is primarily the overcapacity in the Danish market but also other external factors like the Icelandic ash cloud, the economic crisis and the dollar exchange rate.
“In only a few years time we have been able to gather a group of dedicated and highly talented people to run the business in Denmark. Our intention to close the operation is unrelated to the good work accomplished by these employees and only due to the fact that we have not been able to reach our business targets” says Michiel Meijer.
For questions or inquiries passengers can visit transavia.coms website www.transavia.com.
