Ita Airways
ITA Airways has officially announced several new and resuming routes for the 2026 season. The expansion is heavily focused on long-haul growth and strengthening its new ties with the Lufthansa Group and Star Alliance.
The most significant highlight is the first-ever direct connection between Rome and Houston.
New Long-Haul Routes
Rome (FCO) to Houston (IAH): Starting May 1, 2026. This is a major strategic move to connect ITA's hub with a key United Airlines (Star Alliance partner) hub.
Frequency: 3 flights per week in May, increasing to 5 flights per week starting June 1.
Aircraft: Airbus A330-900neo.
Rome (FCO) to Mauritius (MRU): While launched in late 2025 (November), this route will be fully operational throughout the 2026 season.
Resuming and Expanded European Routes
London Heathrow (LHR): Resuming on March 29, 2026. The airline is returning to Heathrow with two daily flights from Rome Fiumicino, complementing its existing service to London City (LCY).
Tripoli (MJI), Libya: Scheduled to resume in March 2026.
Summer Seasonal Mediterranean Routes: Starting June 1, 2026, ITA will launch daily seasonal services from Rome to:
Malaga (AGP)
Valencia (VLC)
Marseille (MRS)
Frequency Increases
Riyadh (RUH): Increasing to 6 weekly flights starting March 29, 2026.
Miami (MIA): Boosting Rome to Miami service from daily to 9x weekly for the Summer 2026 season.
Bangkok (BKK): Daily service will continue through the summer season following its 2025 launch.
Routes "On the Radar"
As part of its 2026–2030 business plan, ITA has identified several target destinations for potential launch later this year or in the near future, though official dates for these are not yet finalized:
Asia: Osaka, Singapore, and Mumbai.
Africa: Lagos and Abidjan.
North America: Newark (EWR) is frequently cited as the next likely U.S. expansion point after Houston.
