Star Alliance sospende l'ingresso di Air India

Il vettore non avrebbe raggiunto le condizioni minime per l'integrazione

Da una nota ufficiale si apprende che è rimandato l'ingresso in Star Alliance di Air India. "Questo è dovuto al fatto - si legge - che il vettore indiano non ha raggiunto le condizioni minime per poter entrare nell’alleanza, così come stabilite contrattualmente nel dicembre 2007". La decisione è stata presa a seguito di una recente analisi sullo stato della richiesta di Air India di entrare in Star, svoltasi nel corso di un incontro tenutosi fra il ministro indiano per l’Aviazione civile, il ceo di Star Alliance, Jaan Albrecht, e il Cmd di Air India, Arvind Jadhav, ed è stata successivamente confermata dal chief executive board di Star Alliance. I rapporti bilaterali attualmente in essere con le compagnie membre di Star Alliance non sono toccati da questa decisione, che comunque lascia aperta la discussione su una possibile futura entrata di Air India nell’alleanza, "nel momento in cui questa venga ritenuta opportuna da entrambe le parti", conclude la nota.

non ditelo a me....4 mesi fa compro un volo one way da Dubai a Delhi per le 6 i sera per questo sabato. Settimana scorsa mi cancellano il volo, mettendomelo a mezzanotte passata...chiedo di essere riprotetto con Kingfisher, emirates o JET, a milano addirittura mi dicono di non potere, chiedo allora il rimborso del biglietto e dall'impiegata italianissima mi sento l'assurda risposta "non siamo addestrati per queste operazioni". Mando mail agli uffici indiani ma in una settimana NESSUNo mi risponde....trovo solo un'agente locale disposto ad aiutarmi e dopo una lunga serie di mail mi riproteggono con emirates...assurdo...

What went wrong with Air India's entry into Star Alliance?

National carrier Air India (AI) is left in the lurch after Star Alliance denied the latter entry into the world’s largest network of 27 airlines linking 855 airports in 155 countries. Kamaljeet Rattan, chief information officer, AI told moneycontrol.com, "The ministry would be taking up the case with Star Alliance."
AI has time and again told mediapersons that with its entry into the alliance, the airline's revenues will grow by at least 40% from its current levels of Rs 17,000 as on March 31, 2011.

Listed below are key take-aways from the communication sent by Star Alliance to the civil aviation ministry on why AI's entry is rejected, according to sources.

• AI as a brand is not considered up-to-the-mark in terms of service quality. AI did not take up brand-makeover exercise.
• With 31,000 employees on-board, AI's aircraft-to-employee ratio is 1:280, which is unheard of in any international airline.
• With a poor equity base of Rs 145 crore and mounting debts of around Rs 45,000 crore, AI's financial health is not considered sound.
• Negative news from all quarters on AI was disliked by member countries at Star Alliance.
• AI, as promised earlier, has not been able to hive off its engineering, maintenance and overhaul division into separate entities. Singapore Airline and Germany's Lufthansa work on a smart business model of having separate subsidiaries for allied activities to churn more revenues.
• AI, after merging with former Indian Airlines in 2007, has made cumulative losses of over Rs 13,000 crore.
• Of the 27 member airlines at Star Alliance, 25 voted against AI in July when the airline was due to join the global network.

However, AI's loss is Jet Airways ' gain.
In 2007, both AI and Jet had applied to the ministry to endorse them for membership at Star Alliance, but Jet's plea was outrightly rejected with AI being, a national carrier, was given preference.
Now that AI has lost the opportunity, Jet, which already has code share arrangements with an over a dozen European carriers like Brussels Airlines, Air Canada (both are Star Alliance members), will find an easy entry into the alliance.
