Singapore Airlines announces A380 configuration
Thursday September 13, 2007
Singapore Airlines' A380s will be configured with a main deck first class cabin consisting of 12 "Singapore Airlines Suites," 60 business class seats on the upper deck and 399 economy seats spread across both decks, the carrier announced yesterday.
SIA previously had disclosed that the aircraft will seat 471 but did not provide the configuration. It also confirmed that first A380 will begin scheduled services on Oct. 28 between Singapore and Sydney, replacing one of three 747-400s on the route. The first commercial flight will take place three days earlier, on Oct. 25, also to Sydney. Seats on that flight and for the return on Oct. 26 are being auctioned on eBay with proceeds donated to charity. The aircraft will be idle on Oct. 27.
SIA said the business and economy cabin products are modeled on those launched in late 2006 on the 777-300ER. The new Singapore Airlines Suites, which will be unveiled at the delivery of the A380 on Oct. 15, "will feature the ultimate inflight luxury, in a class beyond First," according to the carrier.
