Saudi Airlines to buy Boeing planes for $3.3 bln

JEDDAH Nov 7 (Reuters) - Saudi Arabian Airlines ordered on Sunday 12 Boeing 777-300 'Extended Range' (ER) planes and options for 10 more 777s, for $3.3 billion, U.S. firm Boeing (BA.N) said.
The national carrier, which is in the process of being privatised, also ordered eight Boeing 787 dreamliners for its long- haul fleet but did not give a price for that order.
"Our decision to order the 777-300 ER is part of a long-term growth strategy to expand and modernise our fleet with newer, more fuel-efficient airplanes," said Khaled al-Mulhim, Director General of Saudi Arabian Airlines.
Saudi Airlines has a fleet of over 114 planes, including 35 Boeings and 35 Airbus A320s. The new order will raise the number of Boeing 777 planes in the Saudia fleet to 35.
