Santa lands on Virgin Atlantic flight at 30,000 feet
The magic of Christmas came alive at 30,000 feet as Santa landed on a Virgin Atlantic plane over Greenland. Then, in the world’s first 4D experience in flight, he boarded the special festive flight.
After our glass-bottom plane suggestion a while ago, lots of you have been suggesting we should develop planes where you can see out into the night sky above you. Well, with a little help from Santa, we pulled it off on Virgin Atlantic’s 787 Dreamliner.
All 264 customers onboard VS11 were already excited by an early Christmas present from Microsoft of a Windows tablet each. While on-board they could log on to Norad Track Santa and also enjoy a live chat as he flew his sleigh over the Atlantic. But they weren’t expecting what happened next…
As the flight from London Heathrow to Boston passed over Greenland, Santa radioed the Virgin Atlantic pilots flying the aircraft.
He asked for permission to land on the plane to give his reindeers a rest, enjoy some refreshments and say hello to the kids on board.
Suddenly, as the passengers looked upwards in amazement through special glass panels, Santa landed on the roof, wiping off the snow and waving hello.
He then entered the plane through a special Santa hatch, walked down the aisles, delighting children and taking Santa selfies, before jetting back off into the night sky.
