Dati negativi per il 2009 di Lufthansa, ma migliori rispetto alle aspettative degli analisti. La compagnia aerea tedesca ha infatti archiviato il 2009 con una perdita netta di 112 milioni di euro, in netto calo rispetto all'utile di 542 milioni del 2008, ma i profitti operativi rimangono positivi, a 130 milioni di euro. Il fatturato è invece sceso del 10%, a quota 22,3 miliardi di euro. La compagnia ha annunciato che non distribuirà alcun dividendo.

Il confronto con le perdite di AF (1.3 mld), è davvero imbarazzante per la compagnia francese.

Lufthansa suffers first net loss six years

Lufthansa yesterday said it ended a "difficult" 2009 with a net loss of €112 million ($151.9 million), reversed from a restated 2008 profit of €542 million and the company's first full-year deficit since 2003.

Revenue fell approximately 10% to €22.3 billion, while operating profit plunged 90% to €130 million from €1.3 billion in 2008.

The net result implies an €80 million fourth-quarter net loss based on the €32 million deficit incurred through the first nine months of 2009. LH said when announcing its third-quarter results in late October that a full-year operating surplus might be out of its reach. It was €226 million in the black on an operating level through Sept. 30, meaning it suffered an operating loss of €96 million in the fourth quarter (ATWOnline, Oct. 30, 2009).

The company is scheduled to release its complete full-year and fourth-quarter results on March 11.
