Raddoppio voli UAE-Australia

Etihad Airways confirms extra flights to Australia
22-03-2007
Abu Dhabi: Etihad Airways has welcomed the signing of a new aviation agreement between the governments of the UAE and Australia which grants the Abu Dhabi airline up to 28 flights per week to Australia by 2010.

James Hogan, Etihad Airways’ chief executive, said: “This is terrific news ahead of our first flight to Sydney on Monday. We will seriously consider in the months ahead whether we fly twice a day to Sydney from next year or operate to another Australian city.

“The new agreement will undoubtedly enhance greater ties between the UAE and Australia and both governments are to be congratulated in their determination to increase the number of flights between the two countries.”

Trade between the two countries currently stands at around US$ 3 billion (AED 11 billion), with the UAE firmly established as Australia’s largest trade partner in the Middle East and the fastest growing destination for Australian products and services.

Australian business interests in the UAE continue to grow, with more than 300 companies registered with the Chamber of Commerce, as does the expatriate population which currently stands at around 15,000.

Furthermore, with the government of Abu Dhabi providing US$ 200 billion (AED 734.4 billion) of investment in the emirate’s infrastructure, tourism, manufacturing and services during the next nine years, trade with Australia is set to grow rapidly.

From 26 March, Etihad will operate one of its three cabin A340-500 aircraft on its three flights-per-week service to Sydney (increasing to a daily service from 29 June 2007), providing business and leisure travellers with a convenient and luxurious service.

Following the launch of Etihad’s new Sydney service, exports between the two countries will be able to grow considerably with the A340-500 offering 15 tonnes of capacity at full passenger load on each flight.
