LONDON, England (CNN) -- Police arrested an American Airlines pilot who failed a breathalyzer test at London's Heathrow Airport on Wednesday, the airline and police said Thursday.

The pilot was due to fly a London-to-Chicago route leaving Heathrow at 10:15 a.m. He was replaced and the flight departed at 11:30 a.m., the airline said.

It declined to name the pilot.

London's Metropolitan Police said he was a 57-year-old man who was arrested 20 minutes before the plane was due to take off.

Arrests of drunk pilots are "quite infrequent," said a police spokesman who declined to be named, in line with police policy. "They are not everyday occurrences."

The police declined to say how far over the limit he was.

He was released on bail to face a possible court appearance in July.
 
Inquietante, non è la prima volta che si leggono episodi simili di equipaggi bloccati per aver bevuto troppo. Meno male che se ne accorcono sempre prima, speriamo di no, ma se un giorno non fosse cosi, non oso immaginare...

beh vediamo cosa diranno nelle prossime ore. ci sono anche dei falsi positivi
 
Un mio collega che ha lavorato un anno per una delle principali compagnie indiane mi ha raccontato che lì addirittura erano soggetti a test alcoolemici ad ogni presentazione, prima di andare in volo. Nel caso in cui l'esito fosse diverso da 0,0 la prima volta si veniva sospesi dal servizio per un mese senza paga, la seconda volta si veniva licenziati in tronco. Per aver adottato questa contromisura devono aver avuto diversi casi di piloti ubriachi!!
 
Appunto,il fatto che alcuni siano stati bloccati non significa che questi siano la totalità di quanti hanno provato a pilotare dopo qualche drink...

Conoscevo una ragazza che era AV è ogni volta che volava con un comandante in particolare era terrorizzata, considera che faceva il lungo raggio...........
