Pegasus Airlines (PC, Istanbul Sabiha Gökcen) has availed its A320-200 and B737-800 fleets to the longterm ACMI/wet-lease markets amid weak demand for travel to Turkey.

The Turkish scheduled carrier took the unprecedented step of placing an advert in an international magazine this week stating that its seventy-four aircraft (twelve A320-200s, four A320neo, and fifty-eight B737-800s) would be available from October 1 onwards.

Currently, Pegasus Airlines wet-leases two B737-800s to Saudi Arabia's flynas (XY, Riyadh).

Turkey's tourism market has suffered from the impact of regional conflicts as well as political instability at home that culminated in July's failed military coup.

Other operators that have registered a similar downturn in demand include AnadoluJet (AJA, Ankara Esenboga) which recently scrapped a wet-lease agreement with Borajet Airlines (YB, Istanbul Sabiha Gökcen) involving three EMB-195s. Sun Express (XQ, Antalya) also abandoned plans to lease in four B737-800s from Gol Linhas Aéreas Inteligentes (G3, São Paulo Congonhas) this summer while redeploying several jets to its Sun Express Deutschland (XG, Frankfurt Int'l) unit.
