SCHIPHOL - KLM opens this week the first phase of the renewed and significantly expanded KLM non-Schengen Crown Lounge. The company invited Reismedia on Tuesday afternoon for a tour of the new section.

Somewhere in the coming days - KLM does not know exactly when yet - the new part opens and closes the 'old' part of the lounge, so that it can also be converted. In the summer, the non-Schengen Crown Lounge must be completely finished and a festive opening takes place.
After the official opening, the lounge is almost twice as large as before: the space then covers an area of 6800 square meters and can accommodate 1500 guests, spread over two floors. This makes it one of the largest airport lounges in the world, according to KLM.
At the time of the visit, the renovation of the first phase had not yet been completed: for example, a few pieces of furniture had to be placed and the dots were put on the i. However, it was already easy to see which ambiance the lounge gets.

Second floor
Although the lounge has a total of three floors, the entrance is only the first. So there are two floors where the guests can really sit. The two floors are the largest and offer all kinds of free facilities.
This floor is divided into three worlds: SEA (to relax and refresh), CITY (with a large buffet restaurant) and POLDER (to work). In the first phase only a part of the POLDER part will be opened.
In POLDER there is a smaller buffet, a large number of workstations with outlets, a mini cinema / television room and sofas. The space is decorated with a large amount of art and old KLM attributes.

Third floor
The third floor is smaller and more exclusive and consists of one world: SKY. At first everything is still free, but from the official opening in the summer KLM will offer paid services there. The customer must have more choice.
On the first floor is a high class a la carte restaurant, where dishes are served by the famous chef Joris Bijdendijk. If you use this, you will receive an invoice at the end of your visit.
According to Eelco van Asch, senior vice president of Hub Operations Schiphol at KLM, however, travelers do not have to pay the full pound. "We're going to serve star-level dishes here at non-star prices."
That a la carte restaurant, which according to KLM is the best lounge restaurant in the world, only opens in the summer. This also applies to paid meeting rooms and Dutch cheese tasting.
This week all the cocktail bar and the outdoor terrace will open. In the latter place are luxury lounge sofas, from where the travelers have a nice view over the platform and the KLM planes.

Service
"
With the opening of the lounge, we not only offer more space, but also an improved service concept. The service level is really a step higher than before ", Van Asch told Reismedia. "The lounge becomes a destination in itself."
In addition to the above-mentioned paid services, this also translates into things that visitors benefit from free of charge. This makes the buffet restaurant much more luxurious, with all kinds of small snacks and meals prepared by cooks on the spot. There will also be better showers.
Another striking introduction are the naprooms : small rooms with a bed that can be reserved for a few hours to sleep. That does not mean that the lounge is now open at night: it will remain closed.
All in all, the improved facilities and services should ensure that KLM not only has one of the largest airport lounges in the world, but also one of the best.

Grazie, G.
