A V Australia Boeing 777-300, registration VH-VPF performing flight VA-2 from Los Angeles,CA (USA) to Sydney,NS (Australia), was enroute at FL330 780nm southeast of Honolulu,HI (USA), when a woman on board went into labour prompting the crew to divert to Honolulu. On the way to Honolulu a new born girl made its first cry and was immediately accomodated in business class. In the meantime the crew dumped 40 tons of fuel and landed safely in Honolulu 1:45 hours after the decision to divert and 5:45 after departure from Los Angeles.
The airplane departed Honolulu after 2:45 hours on the ground adding 70 tons of fuel and reached Sydney with a delay of 5 hours.
Virgin Blue, parent company of V Australia, reported, that 2 doctors on board and the cabin crew leader assisted in the birth of the little girl, that rushed to see the light of the day about eight weeks early.
