The world’s largest passenger aircraft, the Airbus A-380, is likely to make its maiden commercial flight to India in next year’s winter schedule as German carrier Lufthansa considers Delhi as a possible route to operate the giant aircraft on.
The Federal Office for Civil Aviation of Germany (Luftfahrt-Bundesamt) has written to its counterpart, the civil aviation ministry for additional traffic rights between Germany and India, and this is expected to help Lufthansa increase its capacity on the route.
“The civil aviation department of the German government has sent a letter to its Indian counterpart asking for an increase in the number of its traffic rights as Delhi can be considered a serious destination for operating the Airbus A-380,” Karl Ulrich Garnadt, a member of the Lufthansa German Airlines Board, told a group of visiting Indian journalists. “From my point of view, the A-380 is a perfect plane for India but we will operate a point-to-point flight between Frankfurt and Delhi as that makes an aircraft more efficient in its usage,” Garnadt added.
