LH to re-launch inflight Internet service; first A380 completes test flight
Thursday October 8, 2009
Lufthansa plans to re-launch onboard Internet service, which it suspended in late 2006 when Connexion by Boeing shut down (ATWOnline, Aug. 18, 2006). German news service dpa reported that LH and Panasonic Avionics will hold a press conference next week announcing the new service. Panasonic's solution will be able to use some of the Connexion infrastructure onboard the nearly 70 aircraft that LH previously equipped for Internet access.
Separately, an LH A380 featuring the carrier's livery made a flight in Toulouse yesterday that served to verify its onboard computer system. The airline said the interior of its first A380, which will feature 550 seats, will be completed by year end. LH has 15 A380s on firm order and the first five will be delivered next year.

Lufthansa’s first Airbus A380 has taken off from Toulouse on a check flight over Southern France ahead of its delivery to the German carrier next March.
“A truly moving moment,” says Lufthansa executive board member and chief pilot Captain Juergen Raps. “I cannot wait for our first A380 flight next March from Finkenwerder to Frankfurt."
Flight deck crew reported no abnormalities. The ultra-large aircraft, which Lufthansa says will be configured with around 550 seats, will position to Airbus’ Hamburg-Finkenwerder site for outfitting in the next few days.
