BANGKOK- E' di 39 morti il bilancio di un incidente aereo avvenuto oggi in Laos, secondo quanto riferisce la televisione thailandese.

L'aereo, della compagnia Lao Airlines, è precipitato nel tardo pomeriggio di oggi sul fiume Mekong nel Laos. Secondo quanto riferisce l'agenzia Nuova Cina che cita fonti della compagnia aerea, il velivolo, impegnato in un volo interno, era partito dalla capitale Vientiane e doveva atterrare in una località del sud del Paese. La tv thailandese ha riferito che 39 persone sono morte nell'incidente.

Lao Airlines plane crashes, 49 killed

A Lao Airlines plane from Vientiane crashed just before landing at Pakse airport on Wednesday, killing all 49 people onboard, an airline official said.
The ATR twin-turbo flight QV301 with 44 passengers and five crew on board crashed into the Mekong River as it was coming in to land at the airport in Champassak province in southern Laos.
The plane left Wattay airport in Vientiane at 2.45pm and crashed at 4pm, the official said.
The crash occurred at Don Khong in Phonethong district near Pakse, reports said.
''Upon preparing to land at Pakse airport the aircraft ran into extreme bad weather conditions and was reportedly crashed into the Mekong River. There were no news of survivors at this time,'' the Lao Ministry of Public Works and Transport said in a statement released after the accident.
''Lao Airlines is taking all necessary steps to coordinate and dispatch all rescue units to the accident site in the hope of finding survivors and at the same time informing relatives of the passengers,'' it added.
The ministry said it will disclose the findings on Thursday.
Lao officials informed Thailand that five Thai passengers were on board the flight, said Thai Foreign Ministry spokesman Sek Wannamethee.
"We have been informed that all Thai passengers are dead," he said.
A foreign resident of Pakse said in an email message that the scene of the crash was horrendous.
"The Chinese Temple in front of my house has become an emergency centre," he said.
"I saw lifeless bodies laying about and other lifeless bodies being brought in, some connected to IV drips.
"It's complete chaos out front, as emergency vehicles grapple with usual traffic on this pot-holed, muddy stretch of road. Hundreds of people are loitering about, some curious, others presumably concerned for their loved ones.
"It's absolute horror."
Pakse, the capital of Champassak, is the largest city in southern Laos. It is opposite Ubon Ratchathani with the Chong Mek checkpoint in Sirindhorn district connecting the two countries.
The national airline of Laos operates domestic as well as international services to countries such as Cambodia, China, Thailand, Vietnam and Singapore. Its main base is the Wattay International Airport in Vientiane.
It operates 14 aircraft, including two ATR 73-600 of the type involved in the crash.
A list of the 44 passengers was released by the airline at about 9pm. It described the passengers as five from Thailand, five from Australia, three from Korea, seven from France, one from the US, one from China, one from Taiwan, one from Canada and two from Vietnam.

ATR statement on Lao Airlines flight QV301

ATR regrets to confirm that an ATR 72-600 operated by Lao Airlines was involved in an accident today at around 4.00 pm (local time) near Pakse (Laos). The flight QV301 was operating between Vientiane and Pakse with 44 passengers and 5 crew members on board.

The aircraft, registered under RDPL-34233, was MSN (Manufacturing Serial Number) 1071, delivered from the production line in March 2013.
At this time, the circumstances of the accident are still to be determined. Official sources of Lao Airlines declared that “the aircraft ran into extreme bad weather conditions and was reportedly crashed into the Mekong river. There were no news of survivors at this time”.
The Laos’ Authorities will lead the investigation and will remain the official source of information. In line with the ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) Annex 13 convention, ATR will provide full assistance the French Bureau d’Enquêtes et Analyses (BEA), safety investigation authority representing the country of the aircraft manufacturer.
The ATR 72-600 is a 68-to-74-seat twin turboprop engine aircraft.
All further communications concerning the possible cause of the accident are the responsibility of the investigating authorities.
The concerns and sympathy of ATR go to the families, friends and loved ones affected by the accident.
