BOSTON (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - Law enforcement officials say a JetBlue pilot who threatened to "harm himself in spectacular fashion" surrendered a gun to authorities who confronted him just before a flight from Boston's Logan International Airport.

The pilot was not charged with illegal possession of a firearm, and the gun was taken by federal authorities. Both actions suggest he might be a member of the Federal Flight Deck Officer program.

Reports emerged Thursday night that the co-pilot sent an e-mail to his ex-girlfriend saying he would crash the plane if she did not get back together with him. But JetBlue says a pilot was removed from duty in Boston for health reasons.

JetBlue spokesman Bryan Baldwin said in a statement that no passengers or aircrafts were ever in danger and dismissed the report about the e-mail threat as "vicious rumor and speculation."

In addition they also released this statement:

"TSA law enforcement personnel in coordination with Massachusetts State Police were called to interview a pilot who indicated that he was unfit for duty. During the interview, the pilot voluntarily agreed to depart the airport and seek appropriate care."
