Italian airports, fares and investments too low
Rome, Italy - ENAC's suggestions would not convince AdR
(WAPA) - According to a study carried out by Italian weekly "Panorama", many of Italian airports' problems seem to be related first of all to low fares in comparison to the rest of Europe, and second to a insufficient amount of investments.
For example, as reported by "Panorama", a landing in Italy has an average cost of € 1,482, while in Europe it is of € 2,336.
Concerning investments, in 2007 € 2.2 per passengers have been spent at Rome-Fiumicino, 2.3 in Milan. European average is instead of about € 7.6 per passenger: in Paris the investment is four time higher than in Rome, and in Frankfurt it is even 13 times higher.
To try to solve this differences, Italian Civil Aviation Authority (ENAC) is suggesting a series of measures to airport operators, for example by raising the "Airport rights" voice in the price of tickets. In exchange management companies should accelerate their investments.
The weekly talks about € 432 million to be invested between 2009 and 2012 between the four airports that agreed to the deal: Bari, Brindisi, Naples and Pisa. Discussions are underway also with Cagliari, Bologna, Palermo and Milan-Linate. Rome instead is understood to stay out of the agreement, as it would not be convinced by the suggested proposals: AdR would in fact ask for even higher fares to face future investments (according to what has been reported by "Panorama").
