Nov 20, 2008 (AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION via COMTEX) -- AMR | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- Airline alliance oneworld has announced that Gerard Arpey, American Airlines' chairman and chief executive, has been nominated as chairman to the governing board of oneworld.
In his new position, Arpey succeeds Geoff Dixon, chief executive officer of Qantas, who has held the position for a period of two years. oneworld stated that Arpey will be acting as "first among equals" of the chief executives of the group's member airlines.
Arpey was elected as chairman of American Airlines and its parent company, AMR Corporation, in May 2004, following serving as president and chief executive of both since April 2003. He was president and chief operating officer at the two companies from April 2002.
Since joining American Airlines in 1982, Arpey has also served as executive vice president of operations, senior vice president of finance and planning, chief financial officer and senior vice president of planning.
