Italian WindJet A319-132 (SN 2698) EI-ECX (Former Spirit Airlines N515NK).
Aircraft made an approach into Palermo (LICJ) in the evening on the 1st of October 2009.
Due to windshear (+/- 50 kts) a go around was initiated.They had flap/slat overspeed warnings. After the go around the aicraft flew into a thunderstorm and diverted to Catania (LICC). The whole aircraft is seriously damaged from nose to tail. The thunsterstorm was part of the very bad weather front passing Sicily in the afternoon and night on the 01/02 October 2009. In this night on Sicily 50 people were killed as a result of the extreme weather.
