Finnair has been given regulatory approval in Japan to join the joint business operated by British Airways and Japan Airlines between Europe and Japan. The Nordic carrier expects to join its two oneworld partners in the joint business from next spring.
Finnair CEO Pekka Vauramo said: "We are glad we are now one step closer to starting the cooperation with JAL and British Airways to provide our customers with better connections between the EU and Japan."
JAL President Yoshiharu Ueki said: "Amid the evolving Japanese aviation industry, this anti-trust immunity will enable us to build a stronger value-creating relationship with British Airways and Finnair that can further benefit our customers as well as our business."
BA Chief Executive Keith Williams added: "This will benefit the customers of all three airlines by allowing us to explore ways to improve the connections between East and West."
Finnair flies daily between its Helsinki hub and Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya. British Airways operates between its London Heathrow home and Tokyo Narita and Haneda. Japan Airlines serves London Heathrow, Helsinki, Frankfurt and daily from its Tokyo Narita base.
