Expanding Nordic route network enhances Asian traffic
Finnair to begin codesharing with Icelandair

Finnair will begin codeshare cooperation with the Icelandic airline Icelandair from the beginning of May.The agreement covers the Helsinki-Reykjavik route operated by Icelandair, which will be flown four times per week from June.In May there will be two flights per week from Helsinki to Reykjavik.

Icelandair’s flights between Helsinki and Reykjavik will carry a Finnair flight number.Icelandair’s flight number, on the other hand, will be added to flights on the Helsinki-Warsaw route operated by Finnair.

“Iceland is an exotic destination for Asians, there is a clear demand to travel there. This land of volcanic eruptions, snow, ice and hot springs is of particular interest in Japan, Hong Kong and Korea,” says Petteri Kostermaa, VP Route Strategy and Traffic Planning.

For Nordic airlines, the best route to Asia passes through Helsinki, and all partners feed passengers to Finnair’s growing Asian traffic. For Finnair, on the other hand, an extensive route network in Europe and the Nordic countries is a competitive advantage in the Asian market.

Finnair new partners also include Cimber Air of Denmark and Skyways of Sweden. With Cimber Air, Finnair cooperate in terms of prices and timetables on the Helsinki–Norrköping route and with Skyways on the route between Helsinki and Sundsvall. There are six flights per week from Helsinki to Norrköping, and the Helsinki–Sundsvall route is flown five times per week.

Finnair already has a long-standing codeshare agreement with the Danish airline Sun Air on the Helsinki–Billund route which operates six times per week.

The Icelandair Helsinki–Reykjavik flights that will carry Finnair’s flight number from May are:

AY6833 HEL 1520 KEF 1555 Boeing 757 Flight time 3 h 35 min
AY6832 KEF 0755 HEL 1420 Boeing 757 Flight time 3 h 25 min

nonostante la recente folle speculazione sulla moneta, l'economia Islandese , e quindi la sua aviazione civile, sono una delle piu' interessanti come potenzialita' di sviluppo , anche se comunque piccolina.
