Son of Ryanair founder starts third budget carrier in South America

A new South American budget airline backed by the son of Ryanair founder Tony Ryan has launched its first flights.
Air Viva Peru, led by Declan Ryan’s Irelandia Aviation, became the first low-cost airline to enter Peru’s domestic market, challenging the dominance of LATAM Airlines.
Lima-based Air Viva Peru will operate domestic routes with a fleet of two Airbus A320s.
The airline plans to carry 700,000 passengers in its first year of operations in the Andean country by offering fares starting at the equivalent of $18.
The new Peruvian carrier will operate nine routes in 2017, linking Lima with the cities of Arequipa, Chiclayo, Cuzco, Iquitos, Piura, Tarapoto and Trujillo. There will also be flights from Arequipa to Cuzco and Tacna.
Irelandia Aviation is already established in Mexico with VivaAerobus and in Colombia with VivaColombia.
The first was set up in Monterrey in 2006 and the second in Medellín in 2012 – both modelled on Ryanair.

le compagnie aeree in Perù di solito hanno prezzi diversi per i turisti, chissà se funziona anche con questa low cost allo stesso modo.

Viva Air to take 50 A320s for Latin American growth
Latin American low-cost operator Viva Air has selected the Airbus A320 to expand its fleet.
It is intending to acquire 50 aircraft, including 35 re-engined A320neos and 15 baseline A320s, for its operations.
Airbus says the agreement is the subject of a memorandum of understanding.

Viva Air is owned by Irelandia Aviation and has divisions in Peru and Colombia.
VivaColombia chief William Shaw confirmed the acquisition plan for the carrier during the Paris air show.
He says the A320neos will be delivered from 2020.
The aircraft will be used to underpin international expansion of VivaColombia and Viva Air Peru.
VivaColombia has 26 routes, says Shaw, of which four are international. The Peruvian operation has yet to establish an international presence.
"The jury is still out on whether to go a little north of Colombia or a little south of Peru," says Shaw.
No engine selection has been disclosed. Shaw says the company is "currently taking bids" and will make a decision "soon".
VivaColombia currently has nine A320s and Viva Air Peru has two, all fitted with a 180-seat all-economy layout.
