Tristissima notizia per tutti gli estimatori del Mad Dog: DAT-Danish Air Transport (Danimarca) ha comunicato che ritirerà l'ultimo MD-83 in servizio con un volo di commiato il 16 Ottobre 2021.
L'aereo è l'OY-RUE ancora con la livrea speciale per i Mondiali di calcio del 2014 (leased dalla Coca Cola) ma senza titoli nè marchi pubblicitari.
Biglietti a euro 267 per 1h 30min di volo.
In effetti gli ultimi operatori dell'MD-80 in Europa sono:
ALK Airlines (Bulgaria) con due MD-82
AMAC Aerospace (Svizzera) con un singolo MD-87
Bravo Airways (Ucraina) con due MD-82
European Air Charter (Bulgaria) con otto MD-82 (uno dei quali ho avuto il piacere e l'onore di spottare a FCO)
Altri Md-80 ancora volano con compagnie aeree secondarie in Iran, USA, America Latina e Africa.

We are very thrilled to be able to offer you a chance to fly with the last MD-83 Mad Dog (Registration OY-RUE) in Denmark as we are sending it on retirement after over 30 years in the air. The actual route of this flight will be a surprise and the total flight time is planned to be 1h30m.

Danish Air Transport (DAT), the Copenhagen-based airline that operates a number of scheduled operations and provides ACMI/charter services to other companies, announced it is promoting a farewell flight for its last McDonnell Douglas MD-83, the «Mad Dog», on October the 16th.
The event was announced in the airline’s Facebook page. The aircraft, OY-RUE, will be flown by the airline’s CEO, Jesper Rungholm, himself an aviation aficionado, on a surprise 90-minute tour.
Tickets for the event cost DKK1,990 – EUR267.62 as of September 25 – and include a safety card, a t-shirt and snacks during the flight.
This is one of the last opportunities to fly the «Mad Dog» in Europe. According to Planespotters.net, the remaining operators of the MD-80 family in the Old Continent are ALK Airlines and European Air Charter, from Bulgaria, AMAC Aerospace, from Switzerland, and Bravo Airways, from Ukraine.
OY-RUE, more specifically, became a very popular aircraft among planespotters around the world when it was leased by Coca-Cola to carry the trophy of the Football World Cup of in 2014, sporting commemorative titles. To this day, Uniform-Echo sports the basic colors of that event.
Also according to Planespotters.net, the airframe was originally delivered to the UK’s Airtours International Airways in November 1990, with serial number 49936. Over the years, it flew passengers for Turkey’s Sunways, AOM French Airlines, Spanair and Romania’s Medallion Air, before being delivered to DAT in January 2010.

Questo aereo ha volato per qualche settimana anche nei voli italiani con le isole nel 2018 per sostituire un ATR rotto. L'altro MD che hanno già ritirato invece era proprio un ex meridiana.

Qualche settimana visto x caso dalla finestra mentre approcciava la la 4L a PSA, ne rimasi sorpreso, diciamo che si notava parecchio!

Dei cinque MD-80 operati da DAT tre sono stati gloriosi aerei Meridiana (due addirittura partiti con Alisarda):
OY-CGN -> ex I-SMER
OY-JCN -> ex I-SMET
OY-RUT -> ex I-SMES
