In an awards ceremony held in Madrid on the evening of 26 April, 2010 TAP was announced as the best airline in the world by the prestigious international travel magazine "Condé Nast Traveller". "The quality of TAP over the last few years, both on a national and international level, has been rewarded but this particular award is very special and fills us with pride because the high standards and quality of selection of Condé Nast are well-known" said Fernando Pinto, CEO of the airline upon discovering TAP had won the award.
The Condé Nast awards, which cover "the best in the world" in all the tourism related sectors are awarded annually in the following categories - Hotels, Resorts, Spas, Countries, Cities, Islands, Car Rental Agencies, Airlines, Cruise lines, Trains, Technology, Fashion and Beauty.
The December 2009 edition published a "gold list" with 350 candidates spanning all these categories with the selection taking into account the magazine's readers’ votes, submitted by the end of February.
TAP, who last year already featured in the "Gold List", won the award this year ahead of all the competition including the following airlines: Air France, American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Emirates, Iberia, Finnair, Lan Chile, Lufthansa, Qatar Airways, SAS, Singapore, Thai and Vueling.
The award of this prize to TAP is also a recognition of the quality of the company and its irreplaceable role in the tourism sector.
