Birmingham (Royaume-Uni), Dublin (Irlande), Édimbourg (Royaume-Uni), Florence (Italie) et Zurich (Suisse).

Staremo a vedere..

Two bidders shortlisted to acquire CityJet

ASL Aviation and Intro Aviation in hunt to acquire Swords-based airline

Air France KLM is believed to have shortlisted two bidders to acquire its Swords-based airline subsidiary CityJet.
The Irish Times has learned that Dublin-based ASL Aviation and Intro Aviation in Germany are the two groups shortlisted for the deal.
These bids have emerged from an initial list of close to 20 parties that expressed an interest in CityJet. This was whittled down to six, and then to two. It is understood a preferred bidder could be chosen by the end of this month. This group would then enter into exclusive talks with Air France KLM.

Dublin-based operation

ASL was founded in the 1970s in the UK but relocated to Ireland in 1997. It is 51 per cent owned by Compagnie Maritime Belge, a Belgian shipping company, and 49 per cent by 3P Air Freighters Ltd, an aircraft leasing company incorporated in Dublin.

Its operations include Irish cargo airline Air Contractors, which has 32 aircraft; France’s Europe Airpost, a charter operator that runs flights from Ireland; and Safair, an aircraft leasing company acquired in 2010 from Aergo Capital, which is majority owned by Denis O’Brien.
In 2011, ASL reported a net profit of €30.4 million from turnover of €407 million.
Coincidentally, ASL is based in Swords, where CityJet’s head office is located.
Intro Aviation has positioned itself as a strategic investor in airlines and as a consultancy/turnaround specialist in the sector.

Previous acquisitions

Its investments over the past decade have included acquiring Deutsche BA from British Airways, and part-ownership of LTU, a German airline now owned by Air Berlin. It has recently been linked with a majority takeover of Slovenia's Adria Airways.

No comment was available from CityJet about the bidding process.
When contacted about its interest in CityJet, Intro Aviation’s managing director Peter Oncken said: “We principally never comment on any potential acquisition projects.”
ASL declined to comment.
While headquartered here, CityJet’s main operational base is London City Airport, where it operates flights to 21 European destinations, including Dublin.
CityJet made a pre-tax loss of €8.9 million on turnover of €238 million in the nine months to the end of December 2011.

Air France Said to Prefer Intro Aviation as CityJet Buyer

By Alex Webb & Joe Brennan - Jun 7, 2013 1:10 PM GMT+0200

Air France-KLM (AF) Group has reached a preliminary agreement to sell its CityJet regional airline to German turnaround specialist Intro Aviation GmbH, three people familiar with the process said.

A decision on the sale still depends on final due diligence, and an agreement may be reached within a month, said one of the people, who asked not to be identified because the process is private. Air France KLM spokeswoman Brigitte Barrand had no comment, and Peter Oncken, managing director of Intro Aviation, declined to comment.

CityJet, the No. 1 carrier at London City Airport, has been up for sale since September, as Air France seeks to revamp its regional operations to end years of losses. CityJet serves the London airfield near the city’s financial center, with more than 20 destinations across Europe.

Intro was co-founded by retail entrepreneur Hans-Rudolf Woehrl. Intro bought German airline Deutsche BA from British Airways Plc for one euro in 2003. The airline, renamed DBA, was “rehabilitated within a few months” according to Intro’s website. Intro went on to sell DBA to Air Berlin in 2006.
Intro also bought a majority stake in the unprofitable Dusseldorf-based LTU Group in 2006, restructured it, and sold the charter carrier the following year to Air Berlin.
Dublin-based CityJet has a fleet of 38 aircraft, including Avro RJ85 and Fokker 50 carriers, and more than 480 weekly flights across Europe, according to its website.
The business reported a 6.2 million-euro ($8.1 million) operating loss for the nine months through December 2011 on revenues of 238 million euros, according to its most recent set of accounts filed with the Irish companies office. Air France does not break down CityJet’s figures in its interim or annual reports.

AIR FRANCE-KLM CONFIRMS CITYJET SALE
Published: 23/12/2013

Air France-KLM expects to sell Cityjet and its subsidiary VLM in the first quarter of 2014.

The group has received a firm offer from Germany's Aviation Gmbh to buy the Dublin-based regional airline, it revealed on Friday.

The amount Aviation Gmbh has agreed to pay for Cityjet and VLM has not been disclosed.

However, Air France-KLM said it expects the deal to complete in the first three months of the new year.

CityJet is also expected to close its London City to Luxembourg route in April, according to media reports.

Last week, it emerged that Cityjet will launch new routes from Cardiff to Glasgow and Paris next month (see news, December 20). Both routes are currently operated by Flybe.

CityJet 'actively pursuing' two airline acquisitions: chief

Irish regional carrier CityJet is seeking to acquire two more European airlines, its chief executive Pat Byrne has indicated.

Speaking to FlightGlobal at the Future Travel Experience conference in Dublin on 27 June, Byrne said CityJet was "actively pursuing a couple [of airlines] at the moment that are of interest to us", but "can't talk about it because we are subject to NDAs [non-disclosure agreements]".

CityJet, which has already purchased Scandinavian carriers Cimber and Blue1 through deals struck earlier this year and in 2015 respectively, remains "very active on the acquisition front", Byrne stresses.

He did not disclose the identities of the two new targets, but did confirm that they were not based in Scandinavia and were in a "completely different market, but in Europe".

Byrne describes the integration of Cimber and Blue1 as a "fantastic challenge" that is "very interesting" and "tough", but says: "We are getting there."
He adds: "It's working out. It's as challenging as advertised, merging cultures, systems, engineering, IT, crew management systems..."
Talks on a proposed acquisition of Stobart Air by CityJet broke down in December 2016. Byrne describes this as "unfortunate".
