Biman to expand operations with leased aircraft

Biman Bangladesh Airlines plans to resume flights to three cities and start services to three others, as it adds new leased aircraft to its fleet.
It will resume flights from Dhaka to Delhi and Bangkok from 15 February, using
Boeing 737-800 aircraft, says the airline.
Biman will operate the Delhi service thrice weekly and the Bangkok service four times a week, says a spokesman.
The airline recently received two leased 737-800s and one
Boeing 777-200ER. The 737-800s are leased from GE Capital Aviation Services (GECAS), while the 777-200ER is on lease from Portugal's Euro
Atlantic Airways.
Biman expects to receive a second 777-200ER from Euro Atlantic by end-March, and an
Airbus A310-300 from International Lease Finance Corporation (ILFC) this month, says the carrier.
"Biman is acquiring these aircraft on lease to improve the quality of its services for the interim period up to the delivery of aircraft from
Boeing [from 2011]," says the airline.
When its second 777-200ER arrives, Biman will resume flights to New York, it adds. It will operate between Dhaka and New York three times a week, says the spokesman.
The carrier also has plans to start services to Tripoli, Guangzhou and Colombo using 737-800s. The flight frequency has not been determined yet, adds the spokesman.
Biman has two 737-800s, four 777-300ERs and four
787-8s on order, according to Flightglobal's ACAS database.
